คำแดง (ชื่อวิทยาศาสตร์ : Rhododendron arboreum ) เป็นไม้ชนิดหนึ่ง จำพวกกุหลาบพันปี ในวงศ์กุหลาบป่า (Ericaceae)
คำแดง เป็นหนึ่งในชนิดของกุหลาบพันปี หรือกุหลาบป่าที่พบได้ในประเทศไทย พบกระจายพันธุ์ตั้งแต่อินเดีย, เนปาล, ภูฏาน, พม่า และจีนในมณฑลยูนนานและกุ้ยโจว (สามารถแบ่งออกได้เป็นสกุลย่อยและชนิดย่อย ต่าง ๆ) สำหรับในประเทศไทย นับเป็นพืชดอกที่งดงามมากที่สุดและหายากมากที่สุดชนิดหนึ่ง เพราะมีการกระจายพันธุ์ค่อนข้างจำกัดอยู่เฉพาะในเขตอากาศหนาวเย็นบนพื้นที่ชุ่มชื้น เช่น สันเขา หรือหน้าผา ในระดับความสูงประมาณ 1,600-2,500 เมตร เหนือระดับน้ำทะเล ในประเทศไทยพบได้ในป่าดิบเขาทางภาคเหนือ เช่น อุทยานแห่งชาติดอยอินทนนท์ จังหวัดเชียงใหม่ และอุทยานแห่งชาติขุนแจ จังหวัดเชียงราย เป็นต้น
ผลิดอกในระหว่างเดือนมกราคมถึงพฤษภาคม แต่ช่วงที่ดอกบานเต็มที่คือปลายเดือนกุมภาพันธ์ คำแดงเป็นต้นไม้ขนาดเล็กถึงขนาดกลาง สูง 2-12 เมตร ไม่ผลัดใบ ลำต้นและกิ่งก้านมักคดงอเพราะอิทธิพลของแรงลม เปลือกตะปุ่มตะป่ำ ใบสีเขียวเข้มมีรูปร่างคล้ายหอก ยาว 7-14 เซนติเมตร ออกเรียงเวียนสลับเป็นกลุ่มที่ปลายกิ่ง กุหลาบพันปีมีดอกสีแดงเลือดนกเข้นข้นสะดุดตา ดอกเป็นช่อทรงกลมที่ปลายกิ่ง โดยมีใบเรียงแผ่วนต่อกันเป็นจานรองแลดูงดงามคล้ายดอกกุหลาบ แต่ละช่อมีดอกออกรวมกันตั้งแต่ 4-12 ดอก เมื่อบานมีขนาด 3-5 เซนติเมตร มีขนสั้น ๆ สีแดงปกคลุม ดอกทรงกรวยแกมรูประฆัง ปลายแยกเป็น 5-6 กลีบ กลีบค่อนข้างกลม ส่วนโคนกลีบดอกเชื่อมกันทั้งหมด และในช่วงที่ออกดอกบานนั้น น้ำหวานภายในดอกจะเป็นอาหารของนกและแมลงชนิดต่าง ๆ อีกด้วย
คำแดง เป็นไม้ประจำประเทศเนปาล โดยสีแดงในธงชาติเนปาล หมายถึง สีแดงของดอกคำแดง
คำแดง แม้จะเป็นไม้ที่มีถิ่นกระจายพันธุ์ในพื้นที่สูงในเขตหนาว แต่ก็สามารถนำมาเพาะปลูกได้ในพื้นที่ราบ แต่ก็ปลูกเลี้ยงค่อนข้างยาก นอกจากความงดงามแล้วยังมีคุณสมบัติสามารถดูดซึมสารพิษในอากาศได้อีกด้วย
ชนิดย่อย Rhododendron arboreum subsp. cinnamomeum ใบมีขนสีน้ำตาลคล้ายอบเชย]]Rhododendron arboreum subsp. zeylanicum พบที่ศรีลังกา นับเป็นชนิดย่อยที่หายากRhododendron arboreum subsp. cinnamomeum var. album ดอกสีขาวและจุดสีแดงสดคล้ายเลือดเล็ก ๆ บนพื้นผิวด้านในของกลีบดอกRhododendron arboreum subsp. delavayi สีแดงสด เป็นชนิดย่อยที่พบได้ในประเทศไทยRhododendron arboreum Sm. subsp. nilagiricum (Zenker) Tagg พบได้ในรัฐทมิฬนาฑู ประเทศอินเดีย
