ปลากากาตา เป็นสกุลของปลาหนัง น้ำจืดในสกุล Gagata (/กา-กา-ตา/) ในวงศ์ปลาแค้ (Sisoridae)
จัดเป็นปลาในวงศ์นี้ที่มีขนาดเล็ก มีความยาวประมาณ 5.8 เซนติเมตร พบใหญ่สุด 30 เซนติเมตร มีลำตัวแบนข้างกว่าปลาในวงศ์เดียวกันชนิดอื่น ๆ โดยชื่อ Gagata เป็นการออกเสียงในภาษาถิ่น ในรัฐเบงกอล ที่เรียกปลาในสกุลนี้
เป็นปลาที่มีสีสันสวยงาม ลำตัวมีลวดลายสีดำพาดผ่านลำตัว และมีพฤติกรรมว่ายน้ำหาอาหารกินไปเรื่อย ๆ ตามพื้นทรายหรือพื้นน้ำ แตกต่างไปจากปลาชนิดอิ่นในวงศ์เดียวกันที่มักอยู่เฉย ๆ ซุ่มรออาหารมากกว่า
พบกระจายพันธุ์ในภูมิภาคเอเชียใต้ ตั้งแต่ อินเดีย, ปากีสถาน, เนปาล, พม่า และเทือกเขาตะนาวศรี และลุ่มแม่น้ำสาละวิน โดยพบได้ในตอนบนคือ ตอนล่างของจีน ในอินเดียพบได้ในแม่น้ำสายใหญ่ ๆ เช่น แม่น้ำคงคา, พรหมบุตร, มหานที, สินธุ และพบได้ในแม่น้ำสะโตงและอิรวดีในพม่า
