นกกระเรียนกู่ (Whooping Crane) เป็นนกที่สูงที่สุดในทวีปอเมริกาเหนือ เป็นนกกระเรียนที่กำลังจะสูญพันธุ์ ชื่อนกกระเรียนกู่จากเสียงกู่ร้องของนก เป็นนกกระเรียนหนึ่งในสองชนิดที่พบในอเมริกาเหนือ อีกชนิดคือนกกระเรียนเนินทราย มีอายุ 22-24 ปีในธรรมชาติ ปัจจุบันคาดว่ามีเหลืออยู่ประมาณ 250 ตัว
ลักษณะ
นกกระเรียนกู่เมื่อโตเต็มที่มีขนสีขาว มงกุฎแดง ปากยาวแหลม สีเข้ม ปลายปีกสีดำ มองเห็นได้ชัดเวลาบิน ลูกนกมีสีน้ำตาลจาง ขณะบินจะเหยียดคอตรงไปข้างหน้า ขายาวสีเข้มจะเหยียดไปด้านหลัง นกกระเรียนกู่สูงเกือบ 1.5 ม. ช่วงปีกกว้าง 2.3 ม.เพศผู้หนักโดยเฉลี่ย 7 กก.ขณะที่เพศเมียหนักประมาณ 6 กก.
