ปฏิบัติการดาวน์ฟอล

ปฏิบัติการดาวน์ฟอล (อังกฤษ: Operation Downfall) เป็นแผนการโดยรวมของฝ่ายสัมพันธมิตรเพื่อบุกญี่ปุ่นในช่วงใกล้จะสิ้นสุดสงครามโลกครั้งที่สอง ปฏิบัติการถูกยกเลิกเมื่อญี่ปุ่นได้ยอมจำนนหลังจากโดนทิ้งระเบิดนิวเคลียร์ที่เมืองฮิโรชิมะและนางาซากิ สหภาพโซเวียตประกาศร่วมสงครามต่อต้านญี่ปุ่น และยึดครองแมนจูเรีย ปฏิบัติการดาวน์ฟอลแบ่งออกเป็นสองส่วนด้วยกันคือ: ปฏิบัติการโอลิมปิก (Operation Olympic) และ ปฏิบัติการโคโรเนต (Operation Coronet) ปฏิบัติการจะเริ่มต้นในเดือนตุลาคม ค.ศ. 1945 ปฏิบัติการโอลิมปิกมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อยึดดินแดนหนึ่งในสามทางใต้ของดินแดนตอนใต้สุดของประเทศญี่ปุ่น เกาะคีวชู และเกาะโอกินาวะที่พึ่งยึดได้เพื่อใช้เป็นพื้นที่รองรับการรุกคืบต่อไป ต่อมาในฤดูใบไม้ผลิ ค.ศ. 1946 ปฏิบัติการโคโรเนตถูกวางแผนไว้สำหรับบุกที่ราบคันโต ใกล้กับโตเกียว บนเกาะฮนชู สนามบินบนเกาะคีวชูที่ยึดได้ในปฏิบัติการโอลิมปิกจะเป็นฐานสนับสนุนปฏิบัติการโคโรเนต ถ้าดาวน์ฟอลเกิดขึ้น นี่อาจจะเป็นการทำสงครามสะเทินน้ำสะเทินบกที่มีขนาดใหญ่ที่สุดในประวัติศาสตร์
