ปลาดุกทะเล หรือ ปลาปิ่นแก้ว เป็นปลาหนัง ที่อยู่ในสกุล Plotosus (/พโล-โต-ซัส/) ในวงศ์ปลาดุกทะเล (Plotosidae)
ลำตัวปกคลุมด้วยเมือกลื่น รูปร่างเรียวยาวด้านข้างแบน ส่วนหัวแบนลงมีหนวด 4 คู่ อยู่ที่บริเวณรูจมูก 1 คู่, ริมฝีปาก 1 คู่ และใต้คาง 2 คู่ ครีบหลังอันที่สอง ครีบก้นและครีบหางติดต่อกันครีบหลังและครีบอกมีก้านครีบแข็งซึ่งมีลักษณะเป็นหยักคล้ายฟันเลื่อย ขนาดใหญ่แข็งแรง ส่วนหัวใหญ่ ส่วนท้ายลำตัวเรียวเล็กลง
เป็นปลาที่อาศัยอยู่ตามชายทะเล เช่น แนวปะการัง รวมถึงปากแม่น้ำ หรือป่าชายเลน หรือพื้นที่ ๆ มีสภาพเป็นโคลน โดยจะฝังตัวอยู่ เมื่อยังเป็นปลาขนาดเล็กจะรวมตัวกันเป็นฝูง ในบางชนิดจะมีพฤติกรรมรวมตัวกันเป็นลูกกลมคล้ายลูกบอลประมาณ 100 ตัว อาศัยและหากินอยู่ตามแนวปะการังซึ่งเป็นน้ำใส โดยชนิดที่ใหญ่ที่สุดยาวได้ถึง 150 เซนติเมตร (59 นิ้ว)
เป็นปลาที่มีพิษร้ายแรง โดยพิษจะอยู่บริเวณก้านครีบแข็งบริเวณครีบหลังและครีบอก ที่สามารถแทงทะลุเนื้อเข้าไปได้หากสัมผัสโดนสร้างความเจ็บปวดให้กับผู้ถูกแทงเป็นอันมาก บางครั้งอาจถึงขั้นเสียชีวิตได้ ซึ่งผู้ที่จะจับโดยเฉพาะนำมาบริโภคเป็นอาหารต้องใช้ความชำนาญพอตัว
พบกระจายพันธุ์ในมหาสมุทรอินเดีย, แปซิฟิกตะวันตก จนถึงนิวกินี
