ลัทธิเต๋า หรือ ศาสนาเต๋า (จีน: 道教 Dàojiao; อังกฤษ: Taoism) เป็นปรัชญาและศาสนาที่มีต้นกำเนิดในประเทศจีน เน้นการใช้ชีวิตกลมกลืนกับเต๋า ซึ่งเป็นแนวคิดหลักในสำนักปรัชญาจีนส่วนใหญ่ แต่ในศาสนาเต๋า เต๋าหมายถึงต้นกำเนิด แบบแผน และสารัตถะของสรรพสิ่ง ไม่เน้นเรื่องพิธีกรรมซับซ้อนและระเบียบสังคมอย่างลัทธิขงจื๊อ แม้ลัทธิเต๋าในแต่ละนิกายจะมีคำสอนด้านจริยธรรมแตกต่างกัน แต่โดยทั่วไปเน้นหลักการเดียวกันคือ "อู๋เว่ย" หรือ ความไร้เจตนา ความเป็นธรรมชาติ และความเรียบง่าย กับสมบัติสามประการ ได้แก่ 慈 ความเมตตา 儉 ความมัธยัสถ์ และ 不敢為天下先 ความอ่อนน้อมถ่อมตน

สัญลักษณ์ หยิน-หยาง

ศาสนาเต๋ากำเนิดขึ้นราว 2697ปี ก่อนคริสต์ศักราช โดยรับแนวคิดทางจักรวาลวิทยาจากสำนักยินหยาง และแนวปฏิบัติตนให้สอดคล้องกับวัฏจักรของธรรมชาติตามคัมภีร์อี้จิง ต่อมาใช้เต้าเต๋อจิงของเล่าจื๊อและคัมภีร์จวงจื๊อเป็นคัมภีร์หลักๆประจำศาสนา ถึงสมัยราชวงศ์ฮั่น ลัทธิเต๋าในจ๊กก๊กเริ่มมีองค์กรและพิธีกรรมเป็นระบบ จนถึงปัจจุบันศาสนาเต๋าแบ่งเป็น 2 นิกายหลักคือ สำนักฉวนเจินและสำนักเจิ้งอี หลังสมัยของเล่าจื๊อและจวงจื๊อ มีการจัดสารบบวรรณกรรมศาสนาเต๋าต่าง ๆ มีการรวบรวมทุกศาสตร์ทุกแขนงที่เกี่ยวกับเต๋าทั่วผืนแผ่นดินจีน ตั้งแต่ยุคของหวงตี้มาจนถึงในยุคราชวงศ์หมิงตอนปลายเข้าไว้ด้วยกัน แล้วนำมาชำระคำภร์แบ่งแยกออกเป็นหมวดหมู่ จนได้เป็นคัมภีร์เต้าจ้างและพิมพ์เผยแพร่ตามรับสั่งของจักรพรรดิจีน ดั้งนั้นศาสนาเต๋าจึงเป็นศาสนาที่สมบูรณ์แบบที่สุดในยุคราชวงศ์หมิงตอนปลายนั่นเอง และคำภีร์เต้าจ้างก็กลายมาเป็นคำภีร์ของศาสนาเต๋าไปโดยปริยาย ปัจจุบัน ศาสนาเต๋าเป็นหนึ่งในห้าศาสนาที่ได้รับการรับรองอย่างเป็นทางการในประเทศจีนและประเทศไต้หวัน แม้ศาสนานี้จะไม่แพร่หลายนอกประเทศจีนนัก แต่ก็พบว่ามีศาสนิกชนจำนวนหนึ่งในฮ่องกง มาเก๊า และเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ เช่นประเทศไทย มาเลยเซีย สิงค์โปร เป็นต้น

จริยศาสตร์

หัวข้อทางจริยศาสตร์หลักของคัมภีร์เต้าเต๋อจิงของเล่าจื๊อและคัมภีร์จวงจื๊อ พุ่งเน้นความสนใจไปที่สภาวะ "อู๋เว่ย" ได้แก่ ความเป็นธรรมชาติ ความเรียบง่าย ไม่ขัดเกลา และความเป็นอิสระจากแรงปรารถนา

เต๋า และเต๋อ

เต๋า (จีน: 道; พินอิน: dào) หมายถึง "มรรคา" ซึ่งสื่อความหมายในแง่ของวิถีทาง และหลักการ โดยในลัทธิเต๋า "มรรคา" หรือ 道 หมายถึงสิ่งที่เป็นธรรมชาติ เกิดมีขึ้นเอง เป็นนิรันดร์ ไร้ชื่อเรียกขาน และไม่สามารถอธิบายได้ สิ่งนี้เป็นทั้งจุดเริ่มต้นของสรรพสิ่ง และเป็นวิถีที่ทุกสรรพสิ่งดำเนินไปตาม. เต๋าได้รับการเรียกขานว่าเป็น "การไหลไปของเอกภพ", เป็น "มโนทัศน์ที่จำเป็นด้วยเหตุผลเชิงภววิทยา" (conceptually necessary ontological ground) หรือ "การสาธิตให้ปรากฏโดยธรรมชาติ" นอกจากนี้ "เต๋า" ยังหมายถึงสิ่งที่แต่ละบุคคลและแต่ละสิ่งมีแผ่ซ่านอยู่ภายใน (อัพภันตรภาพ หรือ immanence) ตนเอง

การภวนาและดำรงตนอยู่ในวิถีแห่งเต๋าย่อมทำให้เกิดผลประเสริฐเรียกว่า "เต๋อ" (จีน: 德; พินอิน: dé) ซึ่งหมายถึงคุณธรรม หรือพลัง
