ลาวเทิง

ลาวเทิง (ลาว: ລາວເທິງ; ALA-LC: lāo thœng ; ออกเสียง: [láːw tʰɤŋ]) เป็นชื่อกลุ่มชาติพันธุ์อย่างเป็นทางการที่ประเทศลาวใช้เรียกประชาชนในลาวที่ไม่ใช่ลาวลุ่มและลาวสูง มีกลุ่มชาติพันธุ์ที่หลากหลาย ส่วนใหญ่พูดภาษาในตระกูลภาษาออสโตรเอเชียติก ใน พ.ศ.2536 มีจำนวนเป็น 24% ของประชากรลาวทั้งหมด

ประวัติ

ลาวเทิงส่วนใหญ่พูดกลุ่มภาษามอญ-เขมร ซึ่งเป็นกลุ่มชนที่เชื่อว่าเคยเป็นชนส่วนใหญ่ในแผ่นดินใหญ่ของเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ ซึ่งเข้ามาในบริเวณนี้ในยุคก่อนประวัติศาสตร์ ตามตำนานน้ำเต้าปุงของลาวที่ชาวลาวเทิงออกมาจากน้ำเต้าก่อน ปัจจุบัน ลาวเทิงอยู่ในพื้นที่สูงของลาว เคยทำนามาก่อน จนเมื่อชาวลาวลุ่มเข้ามาถึงลาว จึงอพยพขึ้นไปอยู่ที่สูงขึ้น

วัฒนธรรม

ในประเทศลาว กลุ่มลาวเทิงมักถูกเรียกในภาษาลาวว่าข่าหรือข้า (ลาว: ຂ້າ) แสดงว่ากลุ่มชนนี้เคยถูกใช้เป็นแรงงานของชาวลาวลุ่มมาก่อน มาตรฐานการดำรงชีวิตของลาวเทิงค่อนข้างต่ำกว่าลาวกลุ่มอื่น
