เนื้อเพลงกล่าวถึงความหวังของชาวยิวทั่วโลกที่จะได้กลับมาสู่บ้านเกิดของพ่อของชาวยิว (อัฝราฮัม ยิทซ-คฮัก และยาโขฝ) ตามที่เขียนไว้ในคัมภีร์ทานัคของศาสนายูดาห์ โดยชาวยิวถูกเนรเทศจากดินแดนแห่งพันธสัญญาเมื่อคริสต์ศตวรรษที่ 70 โดยกองทัพของโรมัน แม้ในทุกวันนี้บทสวดมนต์ประจำวันของชาวยิวก็ยังสวดมนต์ถึงการกลับมาสู่ดินแดนนี้ โดยการสวดจะหันหน้าไปทางทิศตะวันออกซึ่งเป็นที่ตั้งของเมืองเยรูซาเลม
