English: Double helix oscillation transformer for an inductively-coupled spark-gap radio transmitter around 1918. The spark gap and capacitor were connected with clips to the bottom primary coil to make a tuned circuit. When the spark gap triggered, current from the capacitor flowed back and forth through the coil and created damped radio frequency oscillations. The top secondary coil was connected with clips to the antenna and ground. The mutual coupling between the primary and secondary coils was adjusted by moving the secondary up (less coupling) or down (more coupling). The oscillating currents induced in the secondary were radiated as radio waves by the antenna.
