ปริศนา (อังกฤษ : puzzle ) คือปัญหาสำหรับท้าทายความเฉลียวฉลาด (ingenuity) ของมนุษย์ ปริศนามักจะถูกออกแบบมาเพื่อความบันเทิง แต่บางครั้งก็กลายเป็นปัญหาทางตรรกศาสตร์ หรือคณิตศาสตร์ อย่างจริงจัง สำหรับกรณีหลัง ผลสำเร็จของปริศนาอาจมีความสำคัญในการพิสูจน์และการวิจัย ทางด้านคณิตศาสตร์
การหาผลสำเร็จของปริศนาบางอย่างอาจต้องใช้แบบแผน (pattern) และขั้นตอนที่เฉพาะเจาะจง บุคคลที่มีความสามารถในการเรียนรู้ได้เร็ว อาจสามารถไขปัญหาได้ดีกว่าบุคคลอื่น ปริศนาซึ่งมีพื้นฐานอยู่บนการเสาะหาและการค้นพบแนวทางในการแก้ปัญหา อาจแก้ได้รวดเร็วกว่าด้วยทักษะการอนุมาน ที่ดี
ที่มาของคำ ในพจนานุกรมภาษาอังกฤษ ฉบับออกซฟอร์ด ค.ศ. 1989 ได้ระบุไว้ว่า คำว่าปริศนาในภาษาอังกฤษ "puzzle" เริ่มมีใช้ตั้งแต่ปลายคริสต์ศตวรรษที่ 16 หมายถึงทำให้ยุ่งยากหรือทำให้ซับซ้อน ซึ่งอ้างอิงจากหนังสือ The Voyage of Robert Dudley...to the West Indies, 1594-95, narrated by Capt. ส่วนคำว่า "ปริศนา" ในภาษาไทย พจนานุกรมฉบับราชบัณฑิตยสถาน ได้ให้ความหมายว่า สิ่งหรือถ้อยคำที่ผูกขึ้นเป็นเงื่อนงำเพื่อให้แก้ให้ทาย และมีที่มาจากคำในภาษาสันสกฤต "प्रश्न" ปฺรศฺน
ประเภทของปริศนา ปริศนานั้นมีจำนวนมากมายจนสามารถแบ่งให้เป็นหมวดหมู่ได้ ตัวอย่างเช่น เขาวงกตก็นับเป็นปริศนาการเดินทางชนิดหนึ่ง เป็นต้น
