ภาวะไข้สูง

ภาวะตัวร้อนเกิน หรือ ภาวะไข้สูง (อังกฤษ: Hyperthermia) เป็นการเพิ่มขึ้นของอุณหภูมิร่างกายเนื่องจากระบบการปรับอุณหภูมิกายล้มเหลว ภาวะนี้เกิดขึ้นเมื่อร่างกายสร้างหรือได้รับความร้อนมากเกินกว่าที่สูญเสียไป เมื่ออุณหภูมิร่างกายสูงมากเกินพอ ภาวะตัวร้อนเกินเป็นภาวะฉุกเฉินทางการแพทย์และต้องการการรักษาทันทีเพื่อป้องกันความพิการและการเสียชีวิตที่อาจตามมา

สาเหตุที่พบได้บ่อยที่สุดคือเป็นลมเพราะความร้อนและผลข้างเคียงจากยา การเป็นลมเพราะความร้อนเป็นภาวะตัวร้อนเกินเฉียบพลันเกิดจากการได้รับความร้อนหรือทั้งความร้อนและความชื้นที่มากเกิน ทำให้กลไกการควบคุมอุณหภูมิของร่างกายทำงานไม่ไหวและไม่สามารถรับมือกับความร้อนได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ ทำให้อุณหภูมิร่างกายสูงขึ้นอย่างควบคุมไม่ได้ นอกจากนี้ภาวะตัวร้อนเกินยังเป็นผลข้างเคียงจากยาที่พบได้ไม่บ่อย โดยเฉพาะในยาที่มีผลต่อระบบประสาทส่วนกลาง ไข้สูงอย่างร้ายเป็นภาวะแทรกซ้อนที่พบได้น้อยในยาสลบบางประเภท
