วรรณะ (ศาสนาฮินดู)

วรรณะ (สันสกฤต: वर्ण, อักษรโรมัน: varṇa) เป็นคำในภาษาสันสกฤตที่มีความหมายหลายประการ เช่น ลำดับ สี และชนชั้น ในทางศาสนาฮินดูใช้เรียกชนชั้นทางสังคมในความเชื่อ ในงานเขียนฮินดู เช่น มานุษมิรตี ระบุว่ามีอยู่ทั้งหมดสี่วรรณะ คือ These and other Hindu texts classified the society in principle into four varnas:

  • ศูทร: แรงงาน
  • แพศย์: พ่อค้าแม่ค้าและชาวสวนชาวไร่
  • กษัตริย์: ผู้นำ ผู้ปกครอง นักรบ
  • พรหมิณ: นักบวช นักวิชาการ อาจารย์
