เบื้องหลัง
ในรอว์ วันที่ 26 ตุลาคม โรแมน เรนส์ ได้ชนะในแมตช์สี่เส้ากับ เควิน โอเวนส์, อัลเบร์โต เดล รีโอ และดอล์ฟ ซิกก์เลอร์ ทำให้เรนส์ได้สิทธิ์เป็นผู้ท้าชิงอันดับ 1 ในการชิงแชมป์ WWE World Heavyweight Championship กับเจ้าของแชมป์ เซท โรลลินส์ อย่างไรก็ตาม เมื่อวันที่ 4 พฤศจิกายน โรลลินส์ได้รับบาดเจ็บที่เข่าขวาอย่างรุนแรง ในเฮาส์โชว์ของ WWE ที่เมื่องดับลิน ประเทศไอร์แลนด์ ทำให้ทั้งเอ็นไขว้หน้า(ACL), เอ็นข้างด้านใน(MCL) และหมอนรองกระดูกเข่าฉีกขาด จนไม่สามารถขึ้นปล้ำป้องกันแชมป์กับเรนส์ ได้ในเซอร์ไวเวอร์ซีรีส์นี้ จากการบาดเจ็บที่เกิดขึ้นทำให้โรลลินส์จำเป็นต้องสละแชมป์ทันที โดยจะมีการปล้ำทัวร์หน้าเมนต์หาแชมป์คนใหม่ในเซอร์ไวเวอร์ซีรีส์แทน
