โรคสมองรูปฟองน้ำวัว (อังกฤษ: bovine spongiform encephalopathy, ย่อ: BSE) หรือรู้จักกันทั่วไปว่า โรควัวบ้า เป็นโรคเสื่อมของระบบประสาท (โรคสมอง) ถึงตายในปศุสัตว์ซึ่งทำให้เกิดการเสื่อมฟองน้ำ (spongy degeneration) ในสมองและไขสันหลัง โรควัวบ้ามีระยะฟักนาน ราว 30 เดือนถึง 8 ปี ปกติมีผลต่อปศุสัตว์โตเต็มวัยโดยมีอายุตั้งต้นสูงสุดที่สี่ถึงห้าปี ทุกสายพันธุ์ไวรับเท่ากัน ในสหราชอาณาจักร ประเทศซึ่งได้รับผลมากที่สุด มีปศุสัตว์ติดเชื้อกว่า 180,000 ตัว และถูกฆ่า 4.4 ล้านตัวระหว่างโครงการกำจัด

ประวัติ
