แคดเฮริน

แคดเฮริน หรือ แคดฮีริน (Cadherins; ย่อมาจาก "calcium-dependent adhesion": การเชื่อมติดโดยปราศจากแคลเซียม) เป็นชนิดของโมเลกุลเชื่อมติดเซลล์ (cell adhesion molecule: CAM) ที่มีความสำคัญในการก่อร่างของแอดเฮีนเรนส์จังก์ชันเพื่อเชื่อมติดเซลล์เข้าด้วยกัน แคดเฮรินเป็นชั้น (class) หนึ่งของโปรตีนข้ามชั้นชนิดที่หนึ่ง (type-1 transmembrane protein) แคดเฮรินสามารถทำงานได้โดยปราศจากแคลเซียมไอออน (Ca²⁺) ซึ่งเป็นที่มาของชื่อเต็มของแคดเฮริน

ซูเปอร์แฟมิลี (superfamily) ของแคดเฮรินประกอบด้วย แคดเฮริน (cadherins), โปรโตแคดเฮริน (protocadherins), เดสโมกลายน์ (desmogleins) และ เดสโมคอลลิน (desmocollins) เป็นต้น ในโครงสร้างของโปรตีนในซูเปอร์แฟมิลีนี้มีจุดร่วมกันคือ แคดเฮรินรีพีทส์ (cadherin repeats) ซึ่งคือ Ca²⁺-binding domains นอกเซลล์ โมเลกุลแคดเฮรินมีแบ่งเป็นชั้น (classes) ย่อยต่าง ๆ ซึ่งแยกออกจากกันได้ด้วยการเติมคำนำหน้า (prefixes) จากการสำรวจค้นพบว่าเซลล์ต่าง ๆ ประกอบด้วยชนิดย่อยของแคดเฮรินเฉพาะตัวชนิดเดียวกันนั้นมีแนวโน้มที่จะกระจุดตัวกันแยกออกจากชนิดอื่น ๆ ทั้งในการเพาะเลี้ยงเซลล์และในเซลล์เชิงพัฒนาการ เช่น เซลล์ที่ประกอบด้วยเอ็น-แคดเฮริน (N-cadherin) มีแนวโน้มที่จะกระจุดตัวกับเซลล์ที่แสดงออกซึ่งเอ็น-แคดเฮรินเช่นกัน อย่างไรก็ตามได้มีการตั้งข้อสังเกตว่าความเร็วในการผสม (mixing speed) ในการทดลองในการเพาะเลี้ยงเซลล์นั้นส่งผลต่อระดับของความเฉพาะเจาะจงทางฮอมอไทปิก (homotypic specificity)
