Coagulative Necrosis เป็นการตายของเซลล์ที่มักเกิดจากการขาดเลือดเฉพาะที่ (ischemia) หรือเนื้อตายเหตุขาดเลือด (infarction) ลักษณะของเซลล์ภายใต้กล้องจุลทรรศน์ชนิดแสงคือบริเวณเนื้อตายยังคงโครงสร้างเดิมไว้แต่นิวเคลียสหายหรือเสียรูปไป หากเนื้อเยื่อโดยรอบยังคงมีเซลล์ชนิดที่เรียกว่า labile cell อยู่ก็จะสามารถแบ่งตัวเพิ่มจำนวนเพื่อซ่อมแซมเนื้อเยื่อที่ตายได้

ลักษณะที่มองเห็นได้ด้วยตาเปล่าของบริเวณเนื้อตายแบบ coagulative necrosis คือมีสีซีดแตกต่างจากเนื้อเยื่อรอบนอก และผิวหน้าตัดมีลักษณะแห้ง ในระยะต่อมาเนื้อเยื่ออาจเปลี่ยนเป็นสีแดงจากการตอบสนองโดยการอักเสบ เซลล์รอบนอกที่มีชีวิตอยู่สามารถเข้ามาช่วยแบ่งตัวทดแทนเนื้อเยื่อที่ตายได้เว้นเสียแต่ว่าเซลล์เหล่านั้นจะเป็น stable cell หรือ permanent cell
ลักษณะทางจุลทรรศน์
เนื้อเยื่อที่ย้อมสี H&E เมื่อดูใต้กล้องจุลทรรศน์จะเห็นเนื้อเยื่อที่ไม่มีนิวเคลียสและโครงสร้างเดิมของเนื้อเยื่อถูกทำลายไปเล็กน้อย จึงมีลักษณะที่เรียกกันว่า ghost cells เนื้อเยื่ออาจถูกย้อมติดสีน้อยลงเนื่องจากนิวเคลียสที่ถูกย่อยสลายจะไม่ติดสีม่วงเข้มเมื่อย้อมด้วยฮีมาทอกซิลิน (hematoxylin) และโครงสร้างไซโทพลาซึมที่หายไปจะลดจำนวนโปรตีนภายในเซลล์ จึงย้อมติดสีชมพูเข้มของอีโอซินน้อยลง
