นกหัวขวานด่างแคระ (อังกฤษ : Grey-capped pygmy woodpecker, Grey-capped woodpecker ; ชื่อวิทยาศาสตร์ : Dendrocopos canicapillus ) เป็นนกขนาดเล็กชนิดหนึ่ง ในวงศ์นกหัวขวาน (Picidae)
มีความยาวประมาณ 15 เซนติเมตร ด้านบนลำตัวสีดำมีแถบเป็นจุดสีขาว ด้านล่างลำตัวสีขาวลายดำ ด้านบนหัวสีเทา มีแถบสีดำคาดเหนือตา ตัวผู้มีแถบสีแดงเล็ก ๆ เหนือคิ้ว ซึ่งบางครั้งมองเห็นได้ยากมาก ไม่มีหงอน มีพฤติกรรมเวลาบินจะใช้กระพือบินสลับกับการร่อนกันไป ขณะบินจะส่งเสียงร้องดัง เวลาหากินจะใช้ปากเจาะเข้าไปในต้นไม้ทั้งที่ยังมีชีวิตอยู่และตายแล้ว พร้อมกับใช้ลิ้นที่ยาวซึ่งมีน้ำลายเหนียวและหนามแหลมยื่นยาวออกไปแมลง และหนอน กินเป็นอาหาร วางไข่ครั้งละ 2-3 ฟอง มีพฤติกรรมหากินร่วมกับนกขนาดเล็กชนิดอื่น ๆ เช่น นกไต่ไม้ , นกเฉี่ยวดง เรียกว่า "เบิร์ดเวฟ"
นกหัวขวานด่างแคระเป็นนกที่พบได้ในป่าทุกประเภท ตั้งแต่ที่ราบไปจนถึงระดับความสูงจากน้ำทะเล 1,830 เมตร โดยเฉพาะป่าโปร่ง พบกระจายพันธุ์อย่างกว้างขวางตั้งแต่ภูฐาน , บังกลาเทศ , อินเดีย , เนปาล , บรูไน , กัมพูชา , อินโดนีเซีย , จีน , เกาหลี , รัสเซีย , เกาะไต้หวัน และเวียดนาม สำหรับในประเทศไทย จัดเป็นนกประจำถิ่น พบทั่วทุกภาค ยกเว้นภาคกลาง จึงสามารถแบ่งออกเป็นชนิดย่อย ต่าง ๆ ได้มากถึง 15 ชนิด (ดูในตาราง)
สำหรับในประเทศไทย นกที่พบทางภาคใต้จัดเป็นชนิดย่อย D. c. auritus ซึ่งมีสีเข้มกว่าชนิดย่อยหลัก D. c. canicapillus ที่พบได้ทั่วไปเล็กน้อย และขนหางคู่กลางมีลายจุดจางกว่ามาก ส่วนทางภาคตะวันออกจะสามารถพบชนิดย่อย D. c. delacouri ซึ่งมีสีจางและลายขีดที่อกไม่ชัดเจนเท่าอีก 2 ชนิดย่อยนั้น และตามกฎหมายจัดเป็นสัตว์ป่าคุ้มครอง
