รางวัลออสการ์ สาขาภาพยนตร์แอนิเมชันยอดเยี่ยม เป็นหนึ่งในรางวัลออสการ์โดยสถาบันศิลปะและวิชาการทางภาพยนตร์ที่มอบให้กับภาพยนตร์แอนิเมชัน รางวัลออสการ์ สาขาภาพยนตร์แอนิเมชันยอดเยี่ยมได้มอบครั้งแรกในปีค.ศ. 2001 ภาพยนตร์แอนิเมชันเรื่อง Beauty and the Beast (ปีค.ศ. 1991) เป็นภาพยนตร์แอนิเมชันเรื่องแรกที่ได้รับการเสนอชื่อเข้าชิงรางวัลออสการ์ สาขาภาพยนตร์ยอดเยี่ยม (ก่อนที่จะมีสาขาภาพยนตร์แอนิเมชันยอดเยี่ยม) ส่วนเรื่อง Waltz with Bashir (ปีค.ศ. 2008) เป็นภาพยนตร์แอนิเมชันเรื่องแรกและเรื่องเดียวที่ได้รับการเสนอชื่อเข้าชิงรางวัลออสการ์ สาขาภาพยนตร์ภาษาต่างประเทศยอดเยี่ยม

รางวัลนี้จะมอบก็ต่อเมื่อมีภาพยนตร์แอนิเมชั่นอย่างน้อย 8 เรื่องออกฉายในปีนั้น ภาพยนตร์แอนิเมชั่นจะต้องมีความยาวมากกว่า 70 นาทีจึงจะถือว่าเป็นภาพยนตร์ขนาดยาวปานกลาง (Feature films) ภาพยนตร์แอนิเมชันทั้งหมดที่เข้าเงื่อนไขดังกล่าวจะถูกเลือกให้ได้รับการเสนอชื่อเข้าชิงรางวัลเพียง 3 เรื่องเท่านั้น หากในปีนั้นมีภาพยนตร์แอนิเมชันมากกว่า 15 เรื่อง จะมีภาพยนตร์แอนิเมชันที่ได้รับการเสนอชื่อเข้าชิงรางวัล 5 เรื่อง
คอมพิวเตอร์แอนิเมชันได้มีบทบาทมากขึ้นและมักจะได้รับรางวัลนี้ไป อย่างไรก็ตาม ภาพยนตร์แอนิเมชัน 2 มิติ เรื่อง Spirited Away ได้รับรางวัลนี้ในปีค.ศ. 2002 และภาพยนตร์สตอปโมชันเรื่อง Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit ก็ได้รับรางวัลนี้ในปีค.ศ. 2005 เช่นกัน
