Python งูเหลือม หรือ งูหลาม เป็นสกุล ของงูไม่มีพิษในวงศ์งูเหลือม (Pythonidae) ใช้ชื่อสกุลว่า Python (/ไพ-ธอน/)
มีทั้งหมด 10 ชนิด (ดูในตาราง)แพร่กระจายพันธุ์ทั้งแต่ทวีปแอฟริกา , เอเชีย และออสเตรเลีย ในแอฟริกาพบได้ตั้งแต่ใต้ทะเลทรายซาฮารา ลงไป จนถึงแอฟริกาตอนใต้ และพบในเกาะมาดากัสการ์ ในเอเชีย พบได้ตั้งแต่อนุทวีปอินเดีย , เอเชียอาคเนย์ ทั้งที่เป็นแผ่นดินใหญ่และหมู่เกาะ กลางทะเล และบางส่วนในเอเชียตะวันออก เช่น ภาคใต้ของจีน , ฮ่องกง และเกาะไหหลำ
เป็นงูที่ใช้พละกำลังจากกล้ามเนื้อที่ลำตัวรัดเหยื่อจนกระดูกหักและขาดใจตาย ก่อนจะกลืนกินเข้าไปทั้งตัว ในบางครั้งที่เหยื่อมีขนาดใหญ่อาจใช้เวลาหลายชั่วโมง โดยเหยื่อที่กินส่วนมากจะเป็นสัตว์เลือดอุ่น ทั้งสัตว์เลี้ยงลูกด้วยนม หรือสัตว์ปีก แพร่ขยายพันธุ์ด้วยการวางไข่ หาเหยื่อได้ทั้งบนดิน, ต้นไม้ และในน้ำ ซึ่งแตกต่างออกไปตามชนิด
โดยคำว่า Python นั้น มาจากภาษากรีก คือคำว่า "πύθων/πύθωνας" มีที่มาจากเทพปกรณัมกรีก เมื่อมหาเทพซูส ได้มีจิตปฏิพัทธ์ต่อ นางเลโต ทำให้ เทพีฮีรา มเหสีเอกเกิดความหึงหวงจึงกลั่นแกล้งด้วยการส่ง งูเหลือมที่เลี้ยงไว้ไปตามรังควาน นางจึงต้องอุ้มครรภ์หนีซอกซอนไปจนถึงเกาะดีลอส โปเซดอน มีความสงสารบันดาลให้เกาะผุดขึ้นในทะเล เพื่อให้นางได้ประสูติ เทพอพอลโล กับ เทพีอาร์เตมิส บนเกาะนั้น ทันทีที่ประสูติจากครรภ์มารดา เทพอพอลโล ก็จับงูเหลือมฆ่าทิ้งเสีย จึงได้รับการขนานนามว่า ไพธูส (Pytheus) ซึ่งแปลว่า “ผู้สังหารงูเหลือม”
