เล็บโตสไปร่า (Leptospira) เป็นเชื้อแบคทีเรียที่ก่อให้เกิดโรคเล็ปโตสไปโรซิสหรือโรคฉี่หนู เล็บโตสไปร่าเป็นแบคทีเรียกลุ่มสไปโรคีต มีลักษณะเป็นเส้นเกลียวยาว ปลายโค้งคล้ายตะขอ เคลื่อนไหวรวดเร็ว โดยการหมุนหรือโค้งงอ สามารถแบ่งเป็น 2 กลุ่มใหญ่ๆ คือ กลุ่มที่ก่อให้เกิดโรค เช่น สายพันธุ์ Leptospira interrogans ซึ่งเป็นปรสิตในมนุษย์และสัตว์ และ กลุ่มที่ไม่ก่อให้เกิดโรค เช่น Leptospira biflexa
พบได้ใน สุนัข หนู โค กระบือ สุกร แพะ แกะ สัตว์เลี้ยงในบ้าน เป็นต้น พบมากในหนู เช่น หนูนา หนูพุก
เชื้อนี้จะมีชีวิตอยู่ได้ในสิ่งแวดล้อมที่มีความชื้น ที่อุณหภูมิประมาณ 28 –32 องศาเซลเซียส สถานที่ต่างๆ เช่น ในดิน โคลน แอ่งน้ำ ที่มีค่า pH (ความเป็นกรดเป็นด่าง) เป็นปานกลาง (pH7.2 - 8.0)
โดยทั่วไป แสงแดดสามารถทำลายเชื้อได้ โดยเชื้อจะตายเมื่ออยู่ที่อุณหภูมิมากกว่า 45 องศาเซลเซียส เช่น อากาศแห้งก็สามารถทำลายเชื้อได้ เชื้อจะตายในไม่กี่ชั่วโมง ที่ที่มีค่า pH ต่ำกว่า 6.5 หรือ สูงกว่า 8.0 หรือเจอความเค็ม รวมทั้งน้ำยาฆ่าเชื้อทั่วไป เช่น คลอรีน ไอโอดีน รวมทั้งสบู่ สามารถฆ่าเชื้อได้
