แตงไทย (อังกฤษ : Muskmelon ; ชื่อวิทยาศาสตร์ : Cucumis melo ) อยู่ในวงศ์ Cucurbitaceae ทางภาคเหนือเรียก แตงลายหรือมะแตงสุก ภาคอีสานเรียก แตงจิงหรือแตงกิง ภาษาเขมรเรียกซกเซรา ภาษากะเหรี่ยงเรียก ดี มีถิ่นกำเนิดในเอเชียใต้ตั้งแต่เชิงเขาหิมาลัยไปถึงแหลมโคโมริน รวมทั้งพันธุ์ที่ผิวเรียบ เช่น honeydew crenshaw และ casaba และพันธุ์ที่ผิวไม่เรียบ เช่น แคนตาลูป แตงเปอร์เซีย และ Christmas melon แตงกวาอาร์เมเนีย จัดอยู่ในกลุ่มเดียวกับแตงไทย แม้ว่ารูปร่างและรสชาติจะใกล้เคียงกับแตงกวา
แตงไทยป็นพืชล้มลุก ลำต้นเป็นเถาเลื้อย มีขนอ่อน ปกคลุมตลอดทั้งลำต้นและใบ ใบเป็นใบเดี่ยวขนาดใหญ่ ขอบใบหยัก ก้านใบยาว ดอกสีเหลือง มีกลีบเลี้ยง 5 กลีบ ผลมีขนาดค่อนข้างใหญ่ รูปร่างกลมยาว ขนาดเส้นผ่าศูนย์กลางผล 12-15 ซม. ยาว 20-25 ซม. ผลอ่อนสีเขียวและมีลายสีขาวพาดยาว เมื่อผลแก่เปลือกเปลี่ยนเป็นสีเหลือง ผิวเรียบเป็นมัน เนื้อในผลสีเหลืองอ่อนอมเขียว กลิ่นหอม มีเมล็ดรูปแบนรี สีครีมจำนวนมาก แตงไทยให้ผลผลิตในช่วงหน้าร้อน สามารถปลูกได้ทุกภาคทั่วประเทศไทย
การใช้ประโยชน์ ผลอ่อนของแตงไทยนำมากินเป็นผักสดจิ้มน้ำพริกหรือนำไปดอง ผลสุกมีรสจืดหรืออมหวานเล็กน้อย เนื้อซุย ชุ่มน้ำ กลิ่นหอม นิยมกินสดหรือทำของหวาน เช่น น้ำกะทิแตงไทย และทำน้ำปั่น ทำเป็นผลไม้แห้งได้ บางพันธุ์ปลูกเพื่อนำเมล็ดไปสกัดน้ำมัน บางชนิดปลูกเพื่อต้องการนำกลิ่นหอมไปใช้ประโยชน์
แตงไทยมีคาร์โบไฮเดรด แคลเซียม ฟอสฟอรัส วิตามินเอ และวิตามินซี เนื้อมีฤทธิ์เย็น ช่วยดับกระหาย แก้เลือดกำเดาไหล ดอกอ่อนตากแห้งต้มดื่มช่วยให้อาเจียน แก้โรคดีซ่าน หรือบดเป็นผงพ่นแก้แผลในจมูก เมล็ดแก่ช่วยในการขับปัสสาวะ ช่วยย่อยอาหาร แก้ไอ รากต้มดื่มช่วยระบายท้อง
