ไมค์ โอลด์ฟิลด์ เกิดที่เมืองรีดดิง แคว้นเบิร์กเชียร์ อังกฤษ ในครอบครัวชาวไอริช ที่นับถือนิกายโรมันแคธอลิกอย่างเคร่งครัด มีพี่สาวและพี่ชาย ที่เป็นนักดนตรี คือ แซลลี โอลด์ฟิลด์ และเทอร์รี โอลด์ฟิลด์ ทั้งคู่เป็นนักดนตรีรับเชิญในผลงานของไมค์ โอลด์ฟิลด์หลายชุด
