งานประกาศผลรางวัลออสการ์ ครั้งที่ 70

งานประกาศผลรางวัลออสการ์ ครั้งที่ 70 จัดขึ้นเมื่อวันที่ 23 มีนาคม ค.ศ. 1998 ณ Shrine Auditorium เมืองลอสแอนเจลิส ประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา งานประกาศรางวัลครั้งนี้ จัดขึ้นโดยองค์กร Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) เพื่อมอบรางวัลให้แก่ภาพยนตร์ที่ออกฉายในปี ค.ศ. 1997 ที่มีความยอดเยี่ยมในแต่ละด้าน โดย Billy Crystal ได้ทำหน้าที่พิธีกรในงาน ซึ่งถือเป็นการทำหน้าที่พิธีกรในงานประกาศผลรางวัลออสการ์เป็นครั้งที่ 6 ของเขา และทำให้เขาได้รับรางวัลเอ็มมีจากความสามารถของเขาเอง นอกจากนี้ ภายในงานยังมีการเชิญนักแสดงที่ได้รับรางวัลออสการ์สาขาการแสดงจำนวน 70 คน มาปรากฏตัวบนเวที เพื่อร่วมเฉลิมฉลองในโอกาสครบ 70 ปี ของงานประกาศผลรางวัลออสการ์อีกด้วย

Titanic นับเป็นภาพยนตร์ที่ประสบความสำเร็จสูงสุดในงานประกาศผลรางวัลออสการ์ครั้งนี้ เนื่องจากได้รับรางวัลออสการ์มากถึง 11 สาขา ซึ่งรวมถึงสาขาภาพยนตร์ยอดเยี่ยมและสาขาผู้กำกับภาพยนตร์ยอดเยี่ยมด้วย

งานประกาศผลรางวัลออสการ์ครั้งนี้ มีการมอบรางวัลทั้งสิ้น 24 สาขา โดยภาพยนตร์เรื่อง Titanic ได้รับรางวัลออสการ์จำนวน 11 สาขา จากจำนวน 14 สาขาที่ได้เข้าชิงรางวัล ภาพยนตร์เรื่องนี้จึงทำสถิติเป็นภาพยนตร์ที่เข้าชิงรางวัลออสการ์มากที่สุด ร่วมกับภาพยนตร์เรื่อง All About Eve ในปี ค.ศ. 1950 และทำสถิติเป็นภาพยนตร์ได้รับรางวัลออสการ์มากที่สุด ร่วมกับภาพยนตร์เรื่อง Ben-Hur ในปี ค.ศ. 1959 และต่อมา ภาพยนตร์เรื่อง The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King สามารถทำสถิติดังกล่าวได้เช่นกันในปี ค.ศ. 2004
