ดอกบุกยักษ์

บุกยักษ์, ดอกบุกยักษ์ หรือ ดอกซากศพ (ชื่อวิทยาศาสตร์: Amorphophallus titanum; อังกฤษ: titan arum) เป็นพืชในสกุลบุกที่มีดอกเป็นแท่งลักษณะคล้ายกับองคชาต ดอกสูงได้เกินกว่า 3 เมตร และบานเป็นเวลา 72 ชั่วโมง มีกลิ่นเหม็นคล้ายคาวปลา เนื้อสัตว์เน่า หรือซากศพ โดยทั่วไปมักใบงอกออกภายหลังจากดอกโรยแล้วและมีเพียงใบเดียวตลอดปี ใบมีความสูงได้ถึง 5 เมตร บุกยักษ์ถูกค้นพบครั้งแรกเมื่อ ค.ศ.1878 ในบริเวณหมู่เกาะสุมาตรา

การออกดอก

โดยทั่วไปแล้วกาบดอก (spathe) เริ่มเปิดออกในช่วงบ่ายถึงเย็น และตลอดทั้งคืน ในช่วงเวลานี้ดอกตัวเมียจะเปิดรับการผสมเกสร โดยทั่วไปกาบดอกจะเริ่มโรยตัวภายใน 12 ชั่วโมง แต่บางครั้งอาจยังคงเปิดอยู่เป็นเวลานานกว่า 24 จนถึง 48 ชั่วโมง เมื่อกาบดอกโรย ดอกตัวเมียจะหมดความสามารถในการผสมเกสร
