ปลาฉลามพยาบาล หรือ ปลาฉลามขี้เซา (อังกฤษ : nurse shark, sleepy shark ) เป็นปลาฉลาม ชนิด หนึ่ง มีชื่อวิทยาศาสตร์ ว่า Ginglymostoma cirratum อยู่ในวงศ์ Ginglymostomatidae เป็นเพียงชนิดเดียวเท่านั้นที่อยู่ในสกุล Ginglymostoma
โดยที่ชื่อวิทยาศาสตร์นั้นคำว่า Ginglymostoma หรือ Ginglymostomatidae มาจากภาษากรีก คำว่า γίγγλυμος (ginglymos ) หมายถึง "บานพับ" หรือ "สายยู" และ στόμα (stoma ) หมายถึง "ปาก" และคำว่า cirratum มาจากภาษากรีก หมายถึง "ขด" หรือ "ว่ายน้ำ"
จัดเป็นปลาฉลามในอันดับ Orectolobiformes หรือปลาฉลามหน้าดินขนาดใหญ่ มีลักษณะคล้ายกับปลาฉลามพยาบาลสีน้ำตาล (Nebrius ferrugineus ) ที่พบได้ในทวีปเอเชียและแอฟริกา ซึ่งในอดีตได้สร้างความสับสนให้แก่แวดวงวิชาการมาแล้ว โดยปลาฉลามพยาบาลจะพบได้ตามแถบหมู่เกาะแคริบเบียน, แถบชายฝั่งของรัฐฟลอริดาตอนใต้และฟลอริดาคียส์, ชายฝั่งมหาสมุทรแอตแลนติกและแปซิฟิกของสหรัฐอเมริกา, ทะเลคอร์เตส ไปจนถึงชายฝั่งเปรูในทวีปอเมริกาใต้
มีขากรรไกรที่แข็งแรง ในปากมีฟันที่แบนและงุ้มเข้าภายใน ใช้สำหรับงับอาหารซึ่งได้แก่ ปลาขนาดเล็กกว่าตามหน้าดินและสัตว์มีกระดองและมอลลัสคา ต่าง ๆ รวมถึงหอยเม่น ให้อยู่และกัดให้แตก โดยใช้อวัยวะที่คล้ายหนวดเป็นเครื่องนำทางและเป็นประสาทสัมผัส จะใช้วิธีการกินด้วยการดูดเข้าปาก มีครีบหางที่ยาวถึงร้อยละ 25 ของความยาวลำตัว ลำตัวเป็นสีเหลืองน้ำตาลจนถึงสีน้ำตาลเข้ม ขณะที่ยังเป็นปลาวัยอ่อนจะมีจุดเข้มเล็ก ๆ กระจายอยู่ทั่ว
เป็นปลาที่อาศัยและหากินตามพื้นน้ำในความลึกไม่เกิน 70 เมตร บางครั้งพบได้ใกล้ชายฝั่งหรือป่าชายเลน เนื่องจากเข้ามาหาอาหารกิน ใช้เวลาหากินในเวลากลางคืน และนอนหลับตามโพรงถ้ำหรือกองหินในเวลากลางวัน เป็นปลาที่มักจะอยู่นิ่ง ๆ ซึ่งบางครั้งอาจพบรวมตัวกันได้นับสิบตัว
มีความยาวได้ถึงเกือบ 4 เมตร น้ำหนักกว่า 300 ปอนด์ (ขนาดโตเต็มที่ที่มีบันทึกไว้ คือ ยาว 4.3 เมตร (14 ฟุต) น้ำหนัก 330 กิโลกรัม (730 ปอนด์)) โดยปกติเป็นปลาที่ไม่ทำอันตรายมนุษย์ จึงเป็นที่ชื่นชอบของนักดำน้ำที่จะถ่ายรูปเช่นเดียวกับปลาฉลามเสือดาว (Stegostoma fasciatum ) แต่ก็สามารถทำร้ายมนุษย์ได้ หากไปรบกวนเข้าด้วยการกัดและดูดที่ทรงพลัง
เป็นปลาที่นิยมเลี้ยงกันตามสถานแสดงพันธุ์สัตว์น้ำ ต่าง ๆ ทั่วโลก มีฤดูกาลผสมพันธุ์อยู่ระหว่างเดือนมิถุนายนจนถึงกรกฎาคม เป็นปลาที่ออกเป็นไข่แต่ลูกปลาจะพัฒนาจนฟักเป็นตัวในท้องของแม่ปลาเหมือนปลาฉลามส่วนใหญ่ชนิดอื่น ตั้งท้องนานประมาณ 6 เดือน ออกลูกสูงสุดได้ถึง 21-29 ตัว ใช้เวลานาน 18 เดือนสำหรับรังไข่ที่จะพร้อมให้กำเนิดไข่ชุดใหม่ ลูกปลาเมื่อแรกเกิดม่ีความยาวประมาณ 30 เซนติเมตร โดยจุดสีเข้มนั้นจะค่อย ๆ จางหายไปเมื่ออายุมากขึ้น
