นกพาโรเทีย เป็นสกุลของนกสกุลหนึ่ง ในวงศ์นกปักษาสวรรค์ (Paradisaeidae) ใช้ชื่อสกุลว่า Parotia (/พา-โร-เทีย/)
นกพาโรเทีย เป็นนกปักษาสวรรค์ที่ขึ้นชื่อว่าเป็นนกที่เต้นด้วยท้วงท่าที่เร้าใจบนพื้นดินของนกตัวผู้เพื่อการเกี้ยวพาราสีและผสมพันธุ์ บางชนิดเต้นด้วยท่าทางที่แปลก ๆ และซ้ำไปมา และซับซ้อนที่สุดในบรรดานกปักษาสวรรค์ แต่ทว่าเป็นที่ดึงดูดใจของนกตัวเมีย เมื่อตัวผู้จะเริ่มเต้นจะกางปีกออกและเผยให้เห็นถึงขนพิเศษที่หน้าอก ซึ่งขนดังกล่าวจะพันลำตัวและวนไปที่ด้านหลังและครอบคลุมปีก และจะเอาขนที่ยาวสามเส้นบนหัวโผล่ขึ้นมา จากนั้นก็จะเดินไปข้างหน้าพร้อมแกว่งหัวและส่ายตัวไปมา ซึ่งจะทำให้ลักษณะของนกเปลี่ยนไป ราวกับว่าแปลงกายมา ซึ่งนกตัวเมียจะมองตัวผู้ลงมาจากด้านบน ซึ่งตัวเมียจะเห็นรูปร่างของตัวผู้เป็นทรงกลมคล้ายกระโปรง
นกพาโรเทีย จะเลือกสถานที่ ๆ ในการเต้นที่สะอาดและเรียบร้อย เมื่อมีสิ่งต่าง ๆ ตกหล่นอยู่ เช่น ใบไม้หรือกิ่งไม้ ตัวผู้ก็จะคาบออกไปทิ้งนอกบริเวณ ในขณะที่นกตัวเมียจะเป็นฝ่ายเลือกตัวผู้จากการเต้น ซึ่งจากมุมมองของนกตัวเมียจะเห็นสีเหลือบบนหัวของนกตัวผู้ที่สั่นกระดิก ๆ ไปมาทั้งสีเหลืองและสีน้ำเงินด้วย
