เบื้องหลัง

เรสเซิลเมเนียถือว่าเป็นรายการเรือธงของ WWE และได้รับการอธิบายว่าซูเปอร์โบว์ลของความบันเทิงกีฬา และเป็นครั้งที่สองที่เรสเซิลเมเนียมาจัดสนามซุเปอร์โดมหลังจากปี 2014 ตั๋วถูกขายเมื่อวันที่ 17 พฤศจิกายน 2017 โดยตั๋วแต่ละใบมีราคาตั้งแต่ 35 ถึง 2,000 เหรียญ เมื่อวันที่ 30 ตุลาคม 2017 ได้มีการจำหน่ายแพ็คเกจเดินทางพร้อมที่พักตั้งแต่ 1,150 ถึง 8,525 เหรียญต่อคน

ในวันที่ 8 เมษายนก่อนที่จะเริ่มเรสเซิลเมเนีย 34 นั้น WWE และ Snickers จะจัดงานบล็อกปาร์ตีเรสเซิลเมเนียที่ลาน Champions Square นอกจากนี้คู่หูอเมริกัน Chloe x Halle จะมาร่วมร้องเพลง "America the Beautiful" เปิดรายการเรสเซิลเมเนีย 34

เรสเซิลเมเนียกับประเภทแมตช์ปล้ำจะถูกกำหนดโดยการวางพล็อตเรื่องและเขียนบท โดยนักมวยปล้ำจะถูกวางตัวให้เป็นธรรมะ หรือ อธรรมทั้งหมดโดยการจัดแมตช์ นักมวยปล้ำที่มาจาก Raw, SmackDown และ 205 Live บางคนเท่านั้นที่มีความบาดหมางกันจะได้มาแสดงที่เรสเซิลเมเนีย

ใน Royal Rumble 2018 แชมป์ WWE AJ Styles สามารถเอาชนะสองคู่ซี้อ้วนผอมจอมแสบอย่าง Kevin Owens และ Sami Zayn แบบแฮนดิแคปป้องกันแชมป์เอาไว้ได้คืนเดียวกัน Shinsuke Nakamura ได้เป็นผู้ชนะ Royal Rumble และประกาศเลือกท้าชิงแชมป์ WWE กับ AJ ในเรสเซิลเมเนีย อย่างไรก็ตามเจ้าของแชมป์อาจมีการเปลี่ยนแปลงได้ โดยผู้จัดการทั่วไป SmackDown อย่าง Daniel Bryan สั่งจัดแมตช์ให้ Owens กับ Zayn เจอกันเองเพื่อหาผู้ชนะไปชิงแชมป์กับ AJ ใน Fastlane แต่จบลงที่ไม่มีผลตัดสิน Bryan จึงประกาศให้ AJ ป้องกันแชมป์แบบ 3 เส้ากับ Owens และ Zayn ก่อนจะเปลี่ยนเป็น 5 เส้าโดยการที่ Baron Corbin ชนะ Owens และ Dolph Ziggler ชนะ Zayn ทำให้ถูกเพิ่มเข้าชิงด้วย ใน SmackDown 27 กุมภาพันธ์ ฟรีเอเย่นต์ John Cena ได้ชนะ AJ แบบไม่ชิงแชมป์ ทำให้เพิ่มเป็น 6 เส้า Six-Pack Challenge แต่ AJ ก็รักษาแชมป์ไว้ได้และไปเจอกับ Nakamura ในการชิงแชมป์ WWE ที่เรสเซิลเมเนีย

Asuka ได้เป็นผู้ชนะ Royal Rumble ของผู้หญิงครั้งแรกในประวัติศาสตร์ ทำให้สามารถเลือกชิงแชมป์หญิง Raw หรือ SmackDown เส้นไหนก็ได้ที่เรสเซิลเมเนีย ทางด้าน Commissioner ของ Raw Stephanie McMahon บอกว่า Asuka ยังไม่ต้องตัดสินใจก็ได้ว่าจะเลือกชิงแชมป์คนไหน เพราะ Alexa Bliss ต้องป้องกันแชมป์หญิง Raw ใน Elimination Chamber นอกจากนี้ Asuka ยังต้องเจอกับ Nia Jax ซึ่งถ้า Jax ชนะจะได้ร่วมชิงแชมป์เป็น 3 เส้าที่เรสเซิลเมเนีย ซึ่ง Bliss ป้องกันแชมป์ได้และ Asuka ชนะ Jax ใน Fastlane หลังจากที่แชมป์หญิง SmackDown อย่าง Charlotte Flair สามารถป้องกันแชมป์กับ Ruby Riott ไว้ได้ Asuka ได้ข้ามค่ายออกมาท้าชิงแชมป์กับ Charlotte ที่เรสเซิลเมเนีย ส่วน Bliss ต้องป้องกันแชมป์กับ Nia Jax

ในเรสเซิลเมเนีย 33 Brock Lesnar ได้คว้าแชมป์ Universal และ Roman Reigns ชนะ Undertaker ผู้จัดการของ Lesnar อย่าง Paul Heyman ได้เปรยถึงแมตช์ชิงแชมป์ระหว่าง Lesnar และ Reigns ซึ่งเป็นเพียงสองคนที่ชนะ Undertaker ในเรสเซิลเมเนีย จากการที่ผู้ชนะ Royal Rumble 2018 ประกาศเลือกท้าชิงแชมป์ WWE ของฝั่ง SmackDown ทำให้มีการจัดแมตช์ Elimination Chamber หาผู้ท้าชิงกับ Lesnar ที่เรสเซิลเมเนียซึ่ง Reigns เป็นผู้ชนะไปชิงกับ Lesnar และยังเป็นการรีแมตช์จากเรสเซิลเมเนีย 31 อีกด้วย แต่หลังจากนั้น Lesnar ก็ไม่ยอมปรากฏตัวใน Raw มาหลายสัปดาห์จน Reigns ไม่พอใจ จึงไปขอพูดคุยกับ Vince McMahon ก่อนที่ทาง Vince จะยืนยันว่าสั่งแบน Reigns ห้ามปรากฏตัวใน Raw อย่างไม่มีกำหนด สัปดาห์ต่อมา Reigns ออกมา แล้วบอกไม่แคร์ไม่สนใจกฎอะไรทั้งนั้น สนใจอยู่อยู่เรื่องเดียวคือรอเจอกับ Lesnar จากนั้นรปภ 3 คนมาจับกุม แต่ Reigns ขัดขืนและอัดรปภเละเทะ Lesnar ก็ออกมาเล่นงาน Reigns ทั้ง Suplex ใช้เก้าอี้ตี และ F5 จนหมดสภาพ อีกสัปดาห์ต่อมา Reigns ก็โดน Lesnar เล่นงานอีกครั้งด้วยเก้าอี้และ F5 ใส่บันไดเหล็ก สัปดาห์สุดท้าย Reigns ออกมา superman punch ใส่ Lesnar หลายครั้งก่อนโดน F5

หลังจากที่แชมป์ Cruiserweight Enzo Amore ได้ถูกปล่อยตัวออกจาก WWE เมื่อวันที่ 23 มกราคม 2018 ทำให้ตำแหน่งแชมป์ว่างลง และมีการแต่งตั้ง Drake Maverick (Rockstar Spud ใน Impact Wrestling) ให้เป็นผู้จัดการทั่วไปของ 205 Live Maverick ประกาศจัดทัวร์นาเมนต์ 16 คนเพื่อหาแชมป์ Cruiserweight คนใหม่ ซึ่งคู่ชิงจะไปสู้กันที่เรสเซิลเมเนีย ในช่วงสองสามสัปดาห์ถัดมา Cedric Alexander, TJP, Kalisto, Roderick Strong, Mark Andrews, Drew Gulak, Buddy Murphy และ Mustafa Ali เข้ารอบแรกโดยชนะ Gran Metalik, Tyler Bate, Lince Dorado, Hideo Itami, Akira Tozawa, Tony Nese, Ariya Daivari และ Gentleman Jack Gallagher ตามลำดับ ในสองตอนถัดมา Alexander, Strong, Gulak และ Ali เข้าสู่รอบรองชนะเลิศโดยชนะ TJP, Kalisto, Andrews และ Murphy ตามลำดับ ในสองตอนต่อมาทั้ง Alexander และ Ali ได้เข้าสู่รอบสุดท้ายชิงชนะเลิศโดยชนะ Strong และ Gulak ตามลำดับ ภายหลังได้ประกาศให้แมตช์นี้ไปอยู่ในช่วง Kickoff

ในเรสเซิลเมเนีย 31 สตาร์ UFC ในตอนนั้นอย่าง Ronda Rousey ปรากฏตัวขึ้นพร้อมกับ The Rock และเล่นงานสองผู้มีอำนาจ The Authority (เจ้าหน้าที่ฝ่ายปฏิบัติการของ WWE Triple H และภรรยาของเขา Stephanie McMahon) ในอีกสองสามปีต่อมาเธอได้เซ็นสัญญาฟูลไทม์กับ WWE และปรากฏตัวหลังจากแมตช์หญิง Royal Rumble 2018 ใน Elimination Chamber Kurt Angle, HHH และ Stephanie ได้ออกมาร่วมจัดพิธีเซ็นสัญญาสังกัด Raw ให้ Ronda Steph พยายามรวบรัดพิธีให้เซ็นเร็วๆ ก่อนที่ Angle จะแฉความจริงว่า HHH กับ Steph แค้น Ronda มาตั้งแต่เรสเซิลเมเนีย 31 และอยากได้มายำเล่นนานแล้ว ซึ่ง 3 ปีผ่านไปก็สำเร็จ ก่อนจะแฉอีกว่า Steph พูดว่า ทุกวันนี้ Ronda ไม่เหลืออะไรแล้ว ลำพังแค่เจอเธอ เธอยังชนะได้เลย Ronda ฉุนจ้องหน้า Steph ด้าน HHH รีบขึ้นมาห้าม แต่โดน Ronda จับทุ่มกับโต๊ะจนพัง!!! Steph โมโหตบหน้า Ronda หนึ่งฉากอย่างแรง!!! Ronda มองจ้องก่อนหยิบสัญญามาเซ็นและเดินกลับไป คืนต่อมา Ronda บอกให้ Steph ขอโทษที่ตบหน้าเธอและ Steph ก็ยอมขอโทษแต่ HHH ก็ชกใส่ Angle สัปดาห์ต่อมา Angle ประกาศจะจับคู่กับ Ronda เจอ HHH กับ Steph แบบแท็กทีมผสมในเรสเซิลเมเนีย

หลังจากพลาดการเป็นผู้ท้าชิงอันดับ 1 แชมป์ Universal ในการปล้ำ Elimination Chamber คืนต่อมา แชมป์ Intercontinental The Miz ออกมาโวยวายว่าเขาสมควรเป็นหนึ่งในคู่เอกเรสเซิลเมเนีย พร้อมกับบอกว่าจะทำให้แชมป์ Intercontinental มีค่ามากกว่าแชมป์ Universal แต่ Kurt Angle ก็ไม่เคยเคารพเขา แถมยังบอกว่าจะจัดแมตช์ให้ในวันนี้เพื่อที่จะหาคนมาท้าชิงแชมป์ซึ่ง Seth Rollins ออกมาเป็นคู่ต่อสู้และเอาชนะ Miz ไปได้ จากนั้น Finn Balor ออกมาเป็นคู่ต่อสู้ให้ Miz อีกคนแต่ Miztourage ขึ้นรุม Balor ทำให้ Gallows & Anderson ขึ้นมาร่วมแจมด้วย Angle ออกมาสั่งให้เริ่มแมตช์ใหม่พร้อมทั้งแบนผู้ติดตามทั้งสองฝ่าย แถมยังบอกว่าถ้าแมตช์นี้จบไม่สวยเขาจะไม่ให้ Miz ปล้ำในเรสเซิลเมเนีย ปรากฏว่า Balor เอาชนะไปได้ หลังเวที Rollins ประกาศท้าชิงแชมป์ Intercontinental กับ Miz ในเรสเซิลเมเนีย สัปดาห์ต่อมา Rollins และ Balor ได้ร่วมมือกันจัดการกับ Miztourage แบบแฮนดิแคปไปได้ หลังแมตช์ Angle ประกาศให้ Miz ป้องกันแชมป์กับ Rollins และ Balor แบบ 3 เส้าที่เรสเซิลเมเนีย

ใน Raw 12 มีนาคม WWE ได้ประกาศจัดแบทเทิลรอยัลเพื่อเป็นเกียรติกับ The Fabulous Moolah โดยจะมีนักมวยปล้ำหญิงจากทั้ง Raw, SmackDown และ NXT เข้าร่วมในแมตช์นี้ ภายหลังได้ถูกเปลี่ยนชื่อเป็น WrestleMania Women's Battle Royal คืนเดียวกัน Kurt Angle ยังได้ประกาศจัดแบทเทิลรอยัลแบบแท็กทีมเพื่อหาทีมที่ชนะไปชิงแชมป์แท็กทีม Raw กับ The Bar (Cesaro และ Sheamus) ผลปรากฏว่า Braun Strowman เป็นผู้ชนะโดยเข้าร่วมคนเดียวได้สิทธิ์ชิงแชมป์กับ The Bar ที่เรสเซิลเมเนีย สัปดาห์ต่อมา Angle ได้สั่งว่า Braun ต้องไปหาคู่เพื่อจะชิงแชมป์แท็กทีม คืนเดียวกันได้มีการประกาศจัดแบทเทิลรอยัลของผู้ชายเพื่อชิงถ้วยรางวัลเป็นเกียรติแก่ André the Giant ปีที่5 ภายหลังมีการประกาศให้แบทเทิลรอยัลทั้ง 2 แมตช์ไปอยู่ในช่วง Kickoff

ใน Fastlane Randy Orton ได้คว้าแชมป์ United States จาก Bobby Roode ทำให้เป็นแชมป์แกรนด์สแลมคนที่ 18 ของ WWE หลังแมตช์ Jinder Mahal ออกมาไล่อัด Orton แต่ Roode มาจัดการ Glorious DDT ใส่ทั้ง Mahal และ Orton ต่อมาใน SmackDown 13 มีนาคม Roode ได้ขอท้ารีแมตช์ชิงแชมป์ US กับ Orton ที่เรสเซิลเมเนีย Mahal ก็ออกมาเยาะเย้ยทั้งคู่และมีแมตช์เอาชนะ Roode ไปได้ ก่อนโดน Orton ใส่ RKO และมีการประกาศชิงแชมป์ US 3 เส้าระหว่าง Orton, Roode และ Mahal ที่เรสเซิลเมเนีย ใน SmackDown 27 มีนาคม Mahal ได้ร่วมทีมกับ Rusev ชนะ Orton กับ Roode ไปได้โดย Rusev เป็นคนจับกด Orton และได้มีการประกาศเพิ่ม Rusev เข้าร่วมชิงแชมป์ US เป็น 4 เส้าที่เรสเซิลเมเนีย

ตลอดปี 2017 ทั้ง The Usos (Jey และ Jimmy Uso) และ The New Day (Big E, Kofi Kingston และ Xavier Woods) ได้ต่อสู้กันในศึกต่างๆ เพื่อชิงแชมป์แท็กทีม SmackDown ความบาดหมางจบลงที่ Hell in a Cell ด้วยชัยชนะของ Usos คว้าแชมป์ไปได้ New Day ได้สิทธิ์ชิงแชมป์กับ Usos อีกครั้งใน Fastlane แต่ทั้งสองทีมได้ถูกก่อกวนโดย The Bludgeon Brothers (Harper และ Rowan) และทำร้าย Jey, Kingston และ Woods ต่อมาใน SmackDown Big E และ Jimmy ได้ร่วมมือกันเพื่อแก้แค้น แต่ก็พ่ายแพ้ ใน SmackDown 27 มีนาคม Big E และ Woods ได้เจอกับ Bludgeon Brothers ซึ่งจบด้วยการฟาล์วหลังถูก Usos มาก่อกวน ก่อนจะมีการประกาศชิงแชมป์แท็กทีม SmackDown 3 เส้าที่เรสเซิลเมเนีย

ตลอดช่วงฤดูร้อนปี 2017 Kevin Owens ได้เปิดศึกความแค้นกับ Commissioner ของ SmackDown อย่าง Shane McMahon ซึ่งนำไปสู่แมตช์นรกในกรงเหล็ก Hell in a Cell แต่ Sami Zayn ก็มาช่วยอดีตเพื่อนอย่าง Owens จนชนะ Zayn บอกว่าเขาผิดหวังกับการไม่ได้รับโอกาสที่คาดไว้ใน SmackDown และบอกว่า Shane ไม่ได้สนใจเขาจริงๆและจะสนใจแต่ตัวเองเท่านั้น Owens และ Zayn ยังคงความบาดหมางกับ Shane โดยการทำร้ายเขาใน Survivor Series และ Shane ขู่ว่าจะไล่พวกเขาออกหากแพ้การปล้ำใน Clash of Champions ขณะที่ผู้จัดการทั่วไปของ SmackDown อย่าง Daniel Bryan ดูเหมือนจะคอยปกป้องทั้งสองโดยการให้โอกาสชิงแชมป์ WWE: ครั้งแรกที่ Royal Rumble ซึ่ง AJ Styles ยังคงป้องกันไว้ได้กับทั้งคู่ในแฮนดิแคป และอีกครั้งที่ Fastlane ซึ่ง Owens และ Zayn ต่างก็เป็นหนึ่งใน 5 ผู้ท้าชิง ระหว่างปล้ำ Shane ได้ก่อกวนทั้งคู่จนอดแชมป์ 2 วันต่อมา Shane ได้ประกาศตัดสินใจยุติบทบาท Commissioner อย่างไม่มีกำหนด ก่อนจะจัดแมตช์ให้ Owens เจอ Zayn ที่เรสเซิลเมเนีย ก่อนถูก Owens กับ Zayn กระทืบจนเละ สัปดาห์ต่อมา Bryan ที่ได้รับอนุญาตจากแพทย์ให้กลับมาขึ้นปล้ำได้อีกครั้งก็ได้ทำการไล่ทั้งสองออกก่อนถูกกระทืบเละอีกคน อีกสัปดาห์ถัดมา Bryan ประกาศจัดแมตช์ Owens และ Zayn เจอกับ Shane และ Bryan ที่เรสเซิลเมเนีย โดยถ้า Owens และ Zayn ชนะก็จะถูกจ้างกลับมา SmackDown

หลังจากล้มเหลวในการเข้าร่วมทั้ง Royal Rumble และ Elimination Chamber ใน Raw 26 กุมภาพันธ์ John Cena ออกมาพูดถึงเรื่องที่เขาไม่มีแมตช์ปล้ำในเรสเซิลเมเนีย ดังนั้นเขาจึงอยากจะท้าเจอกับ The Undertaker แต่ WWE ก็ไม่ยอมจัดให้ ในฐานะฟรีเอเย่นต์เขาได้ไปปรากฏที่ SmackDown คืนถัดมา เพื่อจะหาสิทธิ์ไปปล้ำเรสเซิลเมเนีย โดย Shane กับ Bryan จัดแมตช์ให้ Cena เจอ AJ Styles ที่เป็นแชมป์ WWE เพื่อสิทธิ์ชิงแชมป์และ Cena ก็ชนะทำให้ได้ชิงแชมป์ WWE ใน Fastlane แบบหกเส้า Six-Pack Challenge แต่ก็ไม่ได้แชมป์ Raw คืนต่อมา Cena ประกาศขอท้าเจอกับ Undertaker อีกครั้งที่เรสเซิลเมเนีย Raw ต่อมา Cena ออกมาด่า Taker ว่าเป็นคนขี้ขลาดและท้าทายให้ทำอะไรสักอย่าง แต่ Kane น้องชายของ Taker(ในบท) ออกมา Chokeslam ใส่ Cena ทำให้มีแมตช์กันใน Raw สัปดาห์ถัดมาแบบไม่มีกติกา และเป็น Cena ที่ชนะโดย Cena ได้ล้อเลียนท่าทางของ Taker ตลอดทั้งแมตช์ สัปดาห์สุดท้าย Taker ก็ยังไม่ออกมารับคำท้าจน Cena เริ่มถอดใจ
