การเสื่อมถอยของศาสนาพุทธในอนุทวีปอินเดีย

ศาสนาพุทธซึ่งถือกำเนิดขึ้นในอนุทวีปอินเดียมีจำนวนผู้นับถือลดน้อยลงตามลำดับจนกระทั่งสูญไปเมื่อถึงประมาณคริสต์ศตวรรษที่ 12 ลาร์ส โฟเกลิน นักมานุษยวิทยาชาวอเมริกัน กล่าวว่า "นี่ไม่ใช่เหตุการณ์เดียวที่มีสาเหตุเดียว แต่เป็นกระบวนการที่ดำเนินอยู่เป็นเวลาหลายศตวรรษ"
