ชะมดต้น ชื่อวิทยาศาสตร์: Abelmoschus moschatus มีชื่อสามัญหลายชื่อ เช่น Abelmosk, ambrette seeds, annual hibiscus, Bamia Moschata, Galu Gasturi, muskdana, musk mallow,เป็นพืชในวงศ์ Malvaceae เป็นพืชล้มลุก อายุปีเดียว ใบเดี่ยว ผิวใบมีขนรูปดาวทั้งสองด้าน ก้านใบยาว ดอกเดี่ยว กลีบดอกสีเหลือง โคนกลีบสีแดง เกสรตัวผู้จำนวนมาก เชื่อมติดเป็นท่อยาว เมล็ดรูปไต มีกลิ่นฉุน
เมล็ดของพืชชนิดนั้ทางแพทย์แผนไทยเรียกเทียนชะมด ใช้เป็นยาบำรุงธาตุ ขับลม บดกับน้ำนมใช้ทาแก้หิด ถ้าเคี้ยวจะได้กลิ่นเหมือนชะมดเช็ด เมล็ดบดเป็นผง ใช้โรยตู้เสื้อผ้าเพื่อป้องกันแมลง น้ำมันที่กลั่นจากเมล็ดใช้ทำน้ำหอม เมล็ดใช้แต่งกลิ่นกาแฟ ใบใช้รับประทานเป็นผัก ในอินเดีย พืชชนิดนี้ใช้ทำยาตามตำราอายุรเวท
