พฤหทีศวรมนเทียร (ตันชาวุร)

พฤหทีศวรมนเทียร (อังกฤษ: Brihadishvara Temple) หรือ ราชราเชศวรัม (Rajarajesvaram) หรือ เปรุวุทัยยาร์โกวิล (Peruvudaiyār Kōvil) เป็นมนเทียรพระศิวะ ตั้งอยู่บนฝั่งแม่น้ำตอนใต้ของแม่น้ำกาเวรีในตันชวูร, ทมิฬนาฑู, ประเทศอินเดีย เป็นหนึ่งในมนเทียรแบบอินเดียใต้ที่ใหญ่ที่สุดแลเเป็นตัวอย่างชิ้นสำคัญของสถาปัตยกรรมแบบทราวิฑ มีการเรียกขานมนเทียรนี้ว่าเป็น ทักศิณาเมรุ (เขาพระสุเมรุแห่งทิศใต้) หมู่วิหารนี้สร้างขึ้นโดยกษัตริย์ชาวทมิฬ ราชาราชโจฬะที่หนึ่งระหว่างปี 1003 ถึง 1010 ในปัจจุบันเป็นแหล่งมรดกโลกของยูเนสโกในฐานะ "หมู่วิหารโจฬะมีชีวิต" ร่วมกับมนเทียรจากจักรวรรดิโจฬะ ได้แก่ คงไคโกนทะโจฬปุรัมมนเทียร และ ไอรวเตสวรมนเทยีรซึ่งตั้งอยู่ทางตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือของที่นี่ห่างไป 70 กิโลเมตร (43 ไมล์) และ 40 กิโลเมตร (25 ไมล์) ตามลำดับ

สิ่งก่อสร้างต่าง ๆ ในนี้สร้างขึ้นจากหินแกรนิต หอวิมานของมนเทียรนี้เป็นหนึ่งในวิมานที่สูงที่สุดในอินเดียใต้ และประดิษฐานศิวลึงค์ที่ใหญ่ที่สุดองค์หนึ่งของประเทศอินเดีย นอกจากนี้ที่นี่ยังขึ้นชื่อจากงานประติมากรรมที่วิจิตร ตัวอย่างสำคัญคือเทวรูปพระศิวนาฏราชจากศตวรรษที่ 11 ก็แกะสลักขึ้นที่นี่ ภายในหมู่มนเทียรมีเทวสถานย่อยที่บูชาโคนนทิ, พระแม่ปารวตี, พระขันทกุมาร, พระคเณศ, พระสภาบดี, พระทักษิณามูรติ, พระจันเทศวร, พระวราหิ เป็นต้น ที่นี่เป็นหนึ่งในสถานที่ท่องเที่ยวที่มีผู้เดินทางมาเยี่ยมชมมากที่สุดแห่งหนึ่งในทมิฬนาฑู

ศัพทมูล

ราชราชา (Raja Raja) กษัตริย์ผู้ทรงดำริสร้างมนเทียรนี้ พระราบทานนามให้ว่า ราชราเชศวรัม (Rajarājeśvaram) แปลว่า "มนเทียรของเทพเจ้าแห่งพระเจ้าราชราชา" มีการพบจารึกในเวลาต่อที่เทวสถานพฤหันนายกี (Brihannayaki shrine) เรียกเทพองค์ประธานของที่นี่ว่า เปริยอุทัยนายะนาร์ (Periya Udaiya Nayanar) ซึ่งน่าจะเป็นที่มาของชื่อในปัจจุบันว่า พฤหทีศวร (Brihadisvara) และ เปรุวุทัยยาร์โกวิล (Peruvudaiyar Kovil)

ส่วนคำว่า พฤหทีศวร (ไอเอเอสที: Bṛihádīśvara) เป็นคำภาษาสันสกฤต เกิดจากการรวมกันของคำว่า พฤหัต แปลว่า "ยิ่งใหญ่" และ อิศวร คือ "พระศิวะ" จึงรวมกันเเปลว่า "พระศิวะผู้ยิ่งใหญ่"
