ประวัติ
บิดาชื่อ Matthäus Merian และมารดาชื่อ Johanna Catharina Sibylla เธอมีชีวิตและมีผลงานอยู่ในช่วงศตวรรษที่ 16 โดยที่เมืองปารีสเป็นจุดศูนย์กลางของการวาดภาพพฤกษศาสตร์ ซึ่งในช่วงนี้มีกลุ่มนักเดินทางผจญภัยไปในดินแดนโพ้นทะเลมากมายและมีการบันทึกการเดินทาง อีกทั้งจ้างนักวาดภาพพฤกษศาสตร์ entomology. ร่วมไปในการเดินทางด้วย เพื่อบันทึกข้อมูลเสาะแสวงหา และวาดภาพพรรณไม้แปลก ๆ รวมทั้งนำเมล็ดและส่วนต่าง ๆ ของพืชต่างถิ่นกลับมาศึกษาและเพาะพันธุ์
มาเรียได้แต่งงานกับ Johann Andreas Graff (ในช่วงปี 1665-1692) และมีบุตรสองคน คือ Johanna Helena Herolt และ Dorothea Maria Graff และเธอได้เสียชีวิตเมื่อ 13 มกราคม ค.ศ. 1717 ที่กรุง Amsterdam
ผลงาน
มาเรียเป็กนักวาดภาพทางพฤกษศาสตร์ธรรมชาติ Botanical Art Illustration เป็นงานศิลปะจำเพาะ เพื่อบันทึกลักษณะพืชพรรณ ต้นไม้ สัตว์ และการเจริญเติบโตแบบวิทยาศาสตร์ โดยผลงานของเธออยู๋ในช่วงศตวรรษที่ 16 เธอได้ร่วมเข้ากลุ่มนักเดินทาง เพื่อเก็บภาพการเจริญเติบโตของสัตว์ในแต่ช่วงวัย โดยผลงานการวาดภาพ ลำดับการเจริญเติบโตของผีเสื้อ
การฉลอง
เนืองในวันที่ 2 เมษายนพ.ศ. 2556 ป็นวันครบรอบวันเกิดปีที่ 366 โดย Google ได้แสดงการร่วมรำลึกถึงด้วยการเปลี่ยนโลโก้ให้เป็นรูปวาดธรรมชาติ
