ริ้นน้ำเค็ม (อังกฤษ: biting midges, no-see-ums, midgies, sandflies, punkies) อยู่ในวงศ์ Ceratopogonidae อันดับ Diptera มีประมาณ 4,000 ชนิด ขนาดเล็ก (ยาว 1-5 มิลลิเมตรแต่ส่วนมากประมาณ 3 มิลลิเมตร)
พบในน้ำหรือบริเวณใกล้ ๆ น้ำ ทั่วโลก ตัวเมียของหลาย ชนิด กิน เลือด จากสัตว์ สกุล Culicoides Forcipomyia (Lasiohelea) และ Leptoconops กิน เลือด สัตว์มีกระดูกสันหลัง บางชนิดของสกุล Atrichopogon และ Forcipomyia เป็น ปรสิตภายนอก ของแมลงขนาดใหญ่ สกุล Dasyhelea กินน้ำหวาน สกุล อื่นๆเป็น ตัวห้ำ ของแมลงขนาดเล็ก ๆ ตัวอ่อน พบในสถานที่ชื้น เช่น ใต้ เปลือกไม้ ไม้ผุ ส่วนผสมของปุ๋ย โคลน ขอบลำธาร โพรงต้นไม้ หรือในพืชที่อุ้มน้ำ (เช่น phytotelmata)
หลาย ชนิด ของกลุ่ม hematophagic (กินเลือด) เป็นแมลงรบกวนที่ ชายหาด หรือ ภูเขา บางชนิด เป็น แมลงผสมเกสร ที่สำคัญของ พืชไร่ ในเขตร้อน เช่น โกโก้ ชนิดที่ดูดเลือดอาจเป็น พาหะนำโรค ของ โรค ที่เกิดจาก ไวรัส โปรโตซัว และ หนอนฟิลาเรียล การกัดของสกุล Culicoides เป็นสาเหตุให้เกิดอาการแพ้ใน สัตว์กลุ่มม้า (equine) มีชื่อโรคว่า sweet itch และทำให้มนุษย์เกิดการคันมาก เป็นแนวแดงเป็นสัปดาห์ การแพ้เกิดจากปฏิกิริยาของโปรตีนในน้ำลาย
ชนิดที่มีขนาดเล็กมากสามารถลอดผ่านช่องตะแกรงของ มุ้งลวดหน้าต่าง ธรรมดา ช่องของ เต๊นท์ พวกนี้ถูกดักจับได้ด้วยตาข่ายพิเศษที่ถี่กว่าปกติ
