อาการกลัวอิสลาม

อาการกลัวอิสลาม (อังกฤษ: Islamophobia) เป็นความเกลียดกลัวอย่างรุนแรง หรือความเดียดฉันท์ต่อศาสนาอิสลามหรือมุสลิม โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งเมื่อมองว่าเป็นกำลังภูมิรัฐศาสตร์หรือบ่อเกิดของการก่อการร้าย

คำนี้เป็นคำสร้างใหม่ในคริสต์ทศวรรษ 1970 และโดดเด่นขึ้นระหว่างคริสต์ทศวรรษ 1980 และ 1990 และมีความโดดเด่นในนโยบายสาธารณะด้วยรายงานโดยคณะกรรมการพิพิธภัณฑ์และอาการกลัวอิสลามบริติชของรันนีมีดทรัสต์ ชื่อ อาการกลัวอิสลาม: ความท้าทายสำหรับเราทุกคน (ปี 1997)

สาเหตุและลักษณะของอาการกลัวอิสลามยังมีการโต้เถียงกัน นักวิจารณ์บางคนระบุว่าอาการกลัวอิสลามเพิ่มขึ้นจากเหตุวินาศกรรม 11 กันยายน พ.ศ. 2544 บ้างว่ามาจากการก่อการร้ายโดยกลุ่มมุสลิมหัวรุนแรงที่มุ่งเป้าต่อผู้บริสุทธิ์หลายครั้งในทวีปยุโรปและสหรัฐ บ้างสัมพันธ์กับการมีมุสลิมในสหรัฐและสหภาพยุโรปมากขึ้น บ้างยังสงสัยความถูกต้องของคำนี้ นักวิชาการ S. Sayyid และ Abdoolkarim Vakil ยืนยันว่าอาการกลัวอิสลามเป็นการตอบสนองต่อการถือกำเนิดของอัตลักษณ์สาธารณะของมุสลิมที่แตกต่าง และการมีมุสลิมไม่ใช่ตัวบ่งชี้ระดับของอาการกลัวอิสลามในสังคม โดยว่าสังคมที่แทบไม่มีมุสลิมเลยแต่มีอาการกลัวอิสลามแบบสถาบันหลายแบบอยู่

อาการกลัวอิสลามมีสาเหตุมาจากหลายปัจจัย เช่น ความหวาดกลัวการก่อการร้าย มุมมองที่ขัดกันของเทววิทยาทางศาสนา การขยายตัวของกระแสการเมืองแบบอัตลักษณ์ (identity politics) แต่สาเหตุสำคัญของความหวาดกลัวอิสลามในตะวันตกมีสาเหตุสำคัญมาจากมุมมองของผู้ที่อยู่อาศัยในสังคมตะวันตกว่า อิสลามเป็นลัทธิที่ต่อต้านความเชื่อ, ค่านิยม และหลักการพื้นฐานของอารยธรรมตะวันตก เช่น ความเท่าเทียมกันทางเพศ เสรีภาพในการแสดงความคิดเห็น และเสรีภาพในการนับถือศาสนา พวกมุสลิมถูกชาวตะวันตกมองว่ามีแนวคิดเหยียด และดูหมิ่นชาวยิว (antisemitism) นอกจากนี้ในสังคมที่มีประชากรอพยพจำนวนมากเป็นชาวมุสลิม เช่น สหราชอาณาจักร ฝรั่งเศส หรือเยอรมัน, ชาวมุสลิมถูกมองว่าเป็นกลุ่มที่ไม่ยอมเรียนรู้ที่จะกลมกลืนไปกับวัฒนธรรมท้องถิ่น (assimilation) เหมือนประชากรอพยพกลุ่มอื่นๆ แต่จะยึดถือลัทธิความเชื่อ และอัตลักษณ์ของตนเองอย่างหวนแหน และมองประชากรกลุ่มอื่นเป็นคนต่างพวก หรือเป็นคนนอกศาสนา ซึ่งประชากรส่วนใหญ่ในสังคมมองว่าทัศนคติของอิสลามเป็นสิ่งคุกคามความเป็นเอกภาพของสังคม

เงื่อนไข

มีเงื่อนไขที่เป็นไปได้หลายชื่อที่มีส่วนทำให้มีความรู้สึกและทัศนคติต่อศาสนาอิสลามหรือมุสลิมในแง่ลบ เช่น การต่อต้านมุสลิม, มีอคติต่อมุสลิม ฯลฯ ในเยอรมันจะใช้ Islamophobie (ความกลัวต่อมุสลิม) และ Islamfeindlichkeit (ความเป็นปรปักษ์ต่อมุสลิม) ในสเกดิเนเวีย Muslimhat หมายถึง "ความเกลียดชังต่อมุสลิม"

นอกจากนี้ยังมีคำอื่นอีกในการต่อต้านอิสลาม เช่น Muslimophobia, Islamophobism, antimuslimness  Islamophobes, Islamophobists, anti-Muslimists, antimuslimists, islamophobiacs, anti-Muhammadan (ต่อต้านมุฮัมหมัด), Muslimphobes  anti-mosque (ต่อต้านมัสยิด), anti-Shiites (ต่อต้านชีอะฮ์), anti-Sufism (ต่อต้านซูฟี) และ anti-Sunni (ต่อต้านซุนนี)

ศัพทมูลวิทยา

คำว่า Islamophobia เป็นคำสร้างใหม่ เป็นคำประสมของ Islam (อิสลาม) และ -phobia (ความกลัวสิ่งใดสิ่งหนึ่ง)

ข้อมูลจากพจนานุกรมภาษาอังกฤษฉบับออกซฟอร์ดคำนี้หมายถึง "การไม่ชอบหรือกลัวอิสลาม โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งในทางการเมือง และการเป็นปรปักษ์ต่อมุสลิม"
