กูเกิล โครม (อังกฤษ: Google Chrome) เป็นซอฟต์แวร์เว็บเบราว์เซอร์ พัฒนาโดยกูเกิล เปิดตัวครั้งแรกในปี 2008 โดยยังรองรับระบบปฏิบัติการ ไมโครซอฟท์ วินโดวส์ ก่อนจะออกโปรแกรมให้กับ ลินุกซ์, แมคโอเอส, ไอโอเอส และ แอนดรอยด์ ในภายหลัง กูเกิล โครม ยังเป็นองค์ประกอบหลักของ โครม โอเอส ซึ่งจะทำหน้าที่เป็นหน้าจอหลักสำหรับการเรียกใช้เว็บแอป

ประวัติ

เอริก ชมิดต์ อดีตซีอีโอกูเกิล (ปัจจุบันดำรงตำแหน่งประธานกรรมการบริหาร แอลฟาเบต บริษัทแม่ของกูเกิล) ได้คัดค้านการการพัฒนาเว็บเบราว์เซอร์ที่เป็นอิสระเป็นเวลาหกปี เขาระบุว่า "ตอนนี้กูเกิลยังเป็นบริษัทขนาดเล็ก และยังไม่ต้องการที่จะเข้าร่วมสงครามเบราว์เซอร์" ภายหลังที่ 2 ผู้ก่อตั้ง เซอร์เกย์ บริน และ แลร์รี เพจ ได้จ้างนักพัฒนามอซิลลา ไฟร์ฟอกซ์หลายคนพัฒนาและผลิตรุ่นสาธิตของโครม ชมิดต์ ยอมรับรับว่า "มันเป็นสิ่งที่ดี แล้วมันก็ทำให้ฉันเปลี่ยนความคิดนั้น"

เริ่มให้บริการจริง

กูเกิล โครมเปิดตัวรุ่นเบต้าครั้งแรกในวันที่ 2 กันยายน 2008 สำหรับระบบปฏิบัติการไมโครซอฟท์วินโดว์ (สำหรับวินโดวส์เอกซ์พีหรือใหม่กว่าเท่านั้น) โดยมีทั้งหมด 43 ภาษา และออกรุ่นสมบูรณ์ในวันที่ 11 ธันวาคมปีเดียวกัน
