พระฤษภนาถ

พระฤษภเทพ (สันสกฤต: ऋषभदेव) หรือ พระฤษภนาถ (สันสกฤต: ऋषभनाथ) เป็นตีรถังกร (ศาสดา) องค์แรกของศาสนาเชน ในบรรดาตีรถังกรทั้ง 24 องค์ของจักรวาลปัจจุบัน เชื่อกันว่าพระองค์มีชีวิตอยู่เมื่อนับหลายล้านล้านล้านปีก่อน (billions of billions) อีกพระนามของพระองค์คือ อาทินาถ (ที่พึ่งองค์แรก) หรือ อาทีศวร (พระอิศวรองค์แรก) ยุคาทิเทพ (เทพองค์แรกของยุค) ประถมราชา (ราชาองค์แรก) และ เนเภยะ อันแปลว่า บุตรของพระเจ้านาภิ พระองค์เป็นหนึ่งในสี่ตีรถังกรที่ได้รับการเคารพสูงสุดในศาสนาเชน ได้แก่ พระฤษภนาถ, พระมหาวีระ, พระปารศวนาถ และ พระเนมินาถ

ตามเอกสารของเชนเล่าว่า พระฤษภนาถเป็นพระราชโอรสของพระเจ้านาภิและพระนางมรุเทวีแห่งกรุงอโยธยาหรือเมืองวินิตาทางตอนเหนือของอินเดีย ต่อมาอภิเษกสมรสกับพระมเหสีสองพระองค์คือพระนางสุนันทาและพระนางสุมังคลา มีบุตรกับพระนางสุมังคลาด้วยกัน 99 พระองค์ หนึ่งในนั้นคือพระเจ้าจักรพรรดิองค์แรกคือพระเจ้าภรตจักรพรรดิ และพระราชธิดาหนึ่งพระองค์นามว่าพราหมี และมีบุตรกับพระนางสุนันทาได้แก่พระพาหุพลีพระราชโอรสพระองค์แรก และสุนทรี (Sundari) หลังการเสียชีวิตของนางนิลันชนา (Nilanjana) หนึ่งในนางรำ พระองค์ได้รู้แจ้งถึงธรรมชาติในความเป็นไปของโลก และเกิดประสงค์จะสละราชสมบัติออกผนวช

หลังสละราชสมบัติและออกบวช พระฤษภนาถได้ออกเร่ร่อนโดยปราศจากอาหารเป็นเวลาหนึ่งปีเต็ม ในวันที่พระองค์ได้รับอาหารเป็นวันแรกในรอบปีนั้น ศาสนิกชนฉลองกันเป็นวัน Akshaya Tritiya จากนั้นจึงเข้าสู่โมกษะตามคติเชน บนเขาไกรลาศ (Kailash) คัมภีร์เล่มอาทิปุราณะ (Adi Purana) ของไชนเสนา (Jinasena) คือเอกสารที่บันทึกประวัติชีวิตของพระองค์ การสร้างรูปเคารพและประติมาณวิทยาของพระงอค์ประกอบด้วยรูปเคารพขนาดมหึมา เช่น เทวรูปแห่งอสิงหา และเทวรูปต่าง ๆ ใน เขาโคปชาล (Gopachal hill) สัญลักษณ์ประจำพระองค์คือกระทิง, ต้น Nyagrodha, โคมุขยักษา (Gomukha Yaksha - ยักษ์ที่มีหน้าเป็นกระทิง) และจักเรศวารียักษี (Chakreshvari Yakshi)
