ศาสนาเชน, ไชนะ หรือ ชินะ (แปลว่า ผู้ชนะ) (อังกฤษ: Jainism) เป็นศาสนาเก่าแก่ของอินเดีย เป็นหนึ่งในลัทธิสำคัญทั้งหก ที่เกิดร่วมสมัยกับพระโคตมพุทธเจ้า คำว่า เชน หรือ ไชนะ มาจากภาษาสันสกฤต "ไชนะ" อันแปลว่าผู้ชนะ และสามารถลุยข้ามสายน้ำแห่งการเวียนว่ายตายเกิดได้ ศาสนาเชนเชื่อว่าเป็นศาสนาที่เป็นนิรันดร์ ("sanatan") มีประวัติศาสตร์มายาวนานตั้งแต่สมัยตีรถังกรทั้ง 24 องค์ที่ผ่านมา ซึ่งมี "พระอาทินาถ" เป็นองค์แรกในวงจรจักรวาลนี้ (อวสานปิณี) เมื่อราวหลายล้านล้านล้านปีมาแล้ว ตีรถังกรองค์ที่ 23 คือ "พระปารศวนาถ" มีชีวิตอยู่ราว 800 ปีก่อนคริสตกาล และตีรถังกรองค์สุดท้ายและองค์ปัจจุบันในจักรวาลนี้ "พระมหาวีระ" เป็นองค์ที่ 24 มีชีวิตอยู่ราว 500 ปีก่อนคริสตกาล

หลักการสำคัญของศาสนาเชนคือหลัก อหิงสา (ahiṃsā; ไม่ใช้ความรุนแรง), อเนกานตวาท (anekāntavāda; many-sidedness), อปริเคราะห์ (aparigraha; ความไม่ยึดติด) และการถือพรตนิยม (asceticism) ศาสนิกชนที่เคร่งจะถือปฏิญญา 5 ประการ คือ อหิงสา (ahiṃsā ไม่รุนแรง), สัตยะ (satya ความจริง), อสตียะ (asteya ไม่ลักขโมย), พรหมจรรย์ (brahmacharya การถือพรหมจรรย์) และอปริเคราะห์ (aparigraha; ความไม่ยึดติด) หลักการเหล่านี้นำไปสู่วัฒนธรรมเชนที่มีลักษณะเฉพาะหลายประการ โดยเฉพาะการทานมังสวิรัติ เพื่อป้องกันการทำลายสัตว์ต่าง ๆ และรบกวนวงจรชีวิตของมัน ศาสนาเชนมีคติพจน์ว่า "ปรัสปโรปัครโห ชีวานาม" (Parasparopagraho Jīvānām) อันแปลว่า หน้าที่ของสิ่งมีชีวิตหนึ่งคือการช่วยเหลือกันและกัน (the function of souls is to help one another) และมีบทสวดมนต์พื้นฐานที่สุดคือ "ณโมการมนตระ" (Ṇamōkāra mantra) ศาสนาเชนแบ่งออกเป็นสองสาขาเก่าแก่หลัก ๆ คือ ทิคัมพร และ เศวตามพร และยังมีสาขาย่อยแตกออกไปอีกมากมายในช่วงคริสต์สหัสวรรษที่ 2 ทั้งสองนิกายนี้มีมุมมองที่ต่างกันหลายประเด็น โดยเฉพาะ การบำเพ็ญทุกรกิริยา, เพศ และ คัมภีร์เล่มใดที่จะยึดเป็นคัมภีร์หลักกลาง

ศาสนาเชนมีศาสนิกชนประมาณ 4-5 ล้านคน ส่วนมากอยู่ในประเทศอินเดีย ส่วนน้อยนอกอินเดีย ได้แก่ แคนาดา ยุโรป เคนยา สหราชอาณาจักร ฮ่องกง ซูรินาเม ฟิจิ และ สหรัฐอเมริกา เทศกาลสำคัญ ๆ ในศาสนาเชน เช่น Paryushana และ Daslakshana, มหาวีรชยันตี และ ทีปาวลีแบบเชน

ศาสดา

ศาสนาเชนเชื่อว่ามีศาสดา เรียกว่า "ตีรถังกร" อยู่ด้วยกัน 24 องค์ในจักรวาลปัจจุบัน (อวสานปิณี) องค์แรกคือพระอาทินาถ และองค์สุดท้ายคือองค์ปัจจุบันคือพระมหาวีระ ตีรถังกรคือบุคคลผู้บรรลุเกวลญาณ (สัพพัญญูในศาสนาเชน - Omniscience) และเผยแผ่ธรรมะนั้น ในบรรดา 24 ตีรถังกร องค์ที่ได้รับการเคารพบูชาสูงสุดสี่องค์คือ พระอาทินาถ, พระเนมินาถ, พระปารศวนาถ, พระมหาวีระ

ตีรถังกรองค์ปัจจุบันและองค์สุดท้าย คือ พระมหาวีระ เดิมมีพระนามเดิมว่า "วรรธมาน" แปลว่า ผู้เจริญมีกำเนิดในสกุลกษัตริย์ เกิดในเมืองเมืองเวสาลี พระบิดานามว่า สิทธารถะแห่งกุนทครามะ พระมารดานามว่า ตฤศลา เมื่อเจริญวัยได้รับการศึกษาศิลปศาสตร์หลายอย่างโดยควรแก่ฐานะแห่งวรรณะกษัตริย์ เผอิญวันหนึ่งขณะเล่นอยู่กับสหาย ได้มีช้างตกมันตัวหนึ่งหลุดออกจากโรงวิ่งมาอาละวาด ทำให้ฝูงชนแตกตื่นตกใจ ไม่มีใครจะกล้าเข้าใกล้และจัดการช้างตกมันตัวนี้ให้สงบได้ แต่เจ้าชายวรรธมานได้ตรงเข้าไปหาช้างและจับช้างพากลับไปยังโรงช้างได้ตามเดิม เพราะเหตุที่แสดงความกล้าหาญจับช้างตกมันได้จึงมีนามเกียรติยศว่า "มหาวีระ" แปลว่า ผู้กล้าหาญมาก ซึ่งเป็นชื่อที่เรียกขานกันต่อมาของศาสดาพระองค์นี้

ศาสดามหาวีระมีพี่น้องร่วมพระมารดาเดียวกัน 2 องค์ คือ พระเชษฐภคินี และพระเชษฐภาดา โดยท่านมหาวีระ เป็นพระโอรสองค์สุดท้าย เมื่อมีพระชนมายุได้ 12 พรรษา ทรงได้รับพิธียัชโญปวีตคือพิธีสวมด้ายมงคลแสดงพระองค์เป็นศาสนิกตามคติศาสนาพราหมณ์ หลังจากพระบิดาได้ทรงส่งเจ้าชายไปศึกษาลัทธิของพราหมณาจารย์หลายปี เจ้าชายทรงสนพระทัยในการศึกษาแต่ในพระทัยมีความขัดแย้งกับคำสอนของพราหมณ์ที่ว่า วรรณะพราหมณ์ประเสริฐที่สุดในโลก ส่วนวรรณะอื่นต่ำต้อย แม้วรรณะกษัตริย์ยังต่ำกว่าวรรณะพราหมณ์ แต่แล้วพวกพราหมณ์ได้ประพฤติกาย วาจาและใจ เลวทรามไปตามทิฏฐิของลัทธินั้น ๆ

เมื่อศาสดามหาวีระมีพระชนมายุได้ 19 พรรษา พระบิดาทรงจัดให้อภิเษกสมรสกับเจ้าหญิงยโสธรา ในซึ่งเวลาต่อมาได้พระธิดาองค์หนึ่งนามว่า อโนชา หรือ เจ้าหญิงปริยทรรศนา จนพระชนมายุได้ 28 พรรษา ได้มีความเศร้าโศกเสียพระทัยอย่างมากจากการสิ้นพระชนม์ของพระบิดาและพระมารดา ด้วยวิธีการอดอาหารตามข้อวัตรปฏิบัตรในศาสนาพราหมณ์ ซึ่งศาสนาพราหมณ์ถือว่าเป็นบุญอย่างหนึ่ง

การสูญเสียพระบิดาและพระมารดาได้ทำให้เจ้าชายทรงเศร้าพระทัยมาก ทรงสละพระชายาและพระธิดา เปลี่ยนผ้าคลุมพระกายเป็นแบบนักพรต เสด็จออกจากพระนครและได้ทรงประกาศมหาปฏิญญาในวันนั้นว่า นับตั้งแต่วันนี้เป็นต้นไป 12 ปี ขอไม่พูดกับใครแม้คำเดียว พระมหาวีระได้ทรงบำเพ็ญตนเป็นนักพรตถือการขอเป็นอาชีพ ได้เสด็จเที่ยวไปตามคามนิคมต่าง ๆ โดยมิได้พูดอะไรกับใครเป็นเวลา 12 ปี ได้บรรลุความรู้ขั้นสูงสุดเรียกว่า "เกวลญาณ" ถือเป็นผู้หลุดพ้นกิเลสทั้งปวง เป็นพระอรหันต์และเป็นผู้ชนะโดยสิ้นเชิง

เมื่อพระมหาวีระได้ทรงบรรลุเกวลญาณแล้ว จึงทรงพิจารณาเห็นว่ามีความจำเป็นต้องละปฏิญญานั้นเสียกลับมาสู่ภาวะเดิมคือต้องพูดกับคนทั้งหลาย เพื่อช่วยกันปฏิรูปความคิดและความประพฤติของคนในสังคมเสียใหม่ แล้วได้เริ่มเที่ยวประกาศศาสนาใหม่ อันมีชื่อว่า ศาสนาเชน หรือ ไชนะ แปลว่า ผู้ชนะ

ศาสดามหาวีระได้ทรงใช้เวลาในการสั่งสอนสาวกไปตามนิคมต่าง ๆ เป็นเวลา 30 ปี และได้ทรงเข้าสิทธศิลา (เปรียบได้กับนิพพานของศาสนาพุทธ) หรือมรณภาพ เมื่อมีพระชนมายุได้ 72 พรรษา ในประมาณก่อนปีพุทธศักราชที่ 29 ที่เมืองปาวา หรือสาธารณรัฐมัลละ และเมืองนี้ได้เป็นสถานที่แสวงบุญสำหรับศาสนิกเชนทุกคน

หลักปรัชญา

ศาสนาเชนเป็นศาสนาอเทวนิยม กล่าวคือ มองสภาพความจริงว่ามีส่วนประกอบ 2 สิ่งที่มีสภาวะเที่ยงแท้เป็นนิรันดร คือ 1.ชีวะ ได้แก่ วิญญาณ หรือสิ่งมีชีวิต หรือ อาตมันซึ่งเป็นอัตตา จริงแท้ (ตรงข้ามกับศาสนาพุทธที่เป็นอนัตตา) 2. อชีวะ ได้แก่ อวิญญาณ หรือสิ่งไม่มีชีวิต ได้แก่สสารวัตถุต่าง ๆ

สสารประกอบด้วยองค์ประกอบขั้นพื้นฐาน 5 ประการ คือ 1. การเคลื่อนไหว (ธัมมะ) 2. การหยุดนิ่ง (อธัมมะ) 3. อวกาศ (อากาศ) 4. สสาร และ 5. กาลเวลา โดยทั้งหมดเป็นนิรันดรและปราศจากการเริ่มต้น

สรรพสิ่งทั้งหมดยกเว้นชีวะ (วิญญาน) เป็นสิ่งไม่มีชีวิต เวลาและเอกภาพเป็นสิ่งนิรันดร ไม่มีรูป โลกคงมีอยู่ไม่มีวันจบสิ้น เป็นสภาพนิรันดร ไม่สามารถจะเปลี่ยนแปลงได้ แต่สภาวะเปลี่ยนแปลงคงอยู่ตลอดกาล อวกาศเป็นสิ่งขยายไร้รูป เป็นที่รองรับเนื้อที่ทั้งมวลของเอกภาพ และเอกภาพมีรูปร่างเหมือนคนยืนกางขา เอามือเท้าสะเอว รูปร่างเพรียว เอวแบน ตรงกลางเอกภาพมีที่สถิตแห่งดวงวิญญาณ เป็นบริเวณที่สิ่งมีชีวิตทั้งหลายทุกชนดมีอยู่ เหนือบริเวณตอนกลางของเอกภาพขึ้นไป คือ โลกชั้นบน โลกชั้นนี้มีสองส่วน มีสวรรค์ 16 ชั้น มีเขตของท้องฟ้า 14 เขต ชั้นบนที่สุดของเอกภาพเป็นที่ตั้งของ สิทธศิลา ซึ่งเป็นสถานที่มีลักษณะบริเวณโค้ง เป็นที่สถิตของวิญญาณที่หลุดพ้นออกจากกายที่อยู่บนโลกมนุษย์

คัมภีร์

คัมภีร์ในศาสนาเชนเรียกว่า อาคม (Agama) ซึ่งดั้งเดิมนั้นถ่ายทอดกันมาผ่านทางมุขปาฐะจากรุ่นสู่รุ่น เช่นเดียวกันกับทั้งพระพุทธศาสนาและศาสนาฮินดู ศาสนาเชนเชื่อกันว่าเป็นศาสนาที่เป็นนิรันดร์ คำสอนจากพระอาทินาถ ตีรถังกรองค์แรกนั้น มีมานานหลายล้านล้านปีมาแล้ว เชื่อกันว่าเมื่อครั้งตีรถังกรได้เอ่ยปากสอนธรรมะใน "สมวสรณะ" (samavasarana) คำสอนนั้นจะได้ยินไปทั่วทั้งจักรวาล ทั้งเหล่าทวยเทพและมนุษย์ โอวาทที่ได้กล่าวนั้นเรียกว่า "ศรุตญาณ" (Śhrut Jnāna) และประกอบด้วย "อังคะ" (Anga) ทั้ง 11 และปุรวะ (purva) ทั้ง 14 โอวาทเหล่านั้นจะถูกจดจำและส่งต่อโดย "คณะธร" (Ganadhara) ประกอบด้วย 12 อันกา ซึ่งเทียบด้วยสัญลักษณ์เป็นต้นไม้ที่มีกิ่ง 12 กิ่ง ศาสนาเชนเชื่อว่าเมื่อ อรหะ ได้กล่าวสิ่งใดแล้ว สิ่งนั้นจะกลายเป็น "สูตระ" (sūtra) ซึ่งต่อมาจะกลายเป็นคำสอนในศาสนาเชน การสร้างและส่งต่ออาคมนั้น เป็นหน้าที่ของศาสนิกชน

  5. มีความปรารถนาพอสมควร
  6. เว้นจากการฆ่าสัตว์เป็นอาหาร
  7. อยู่ในเขตของตนตามกำหนด
  8. พอดีในการบริโภค
  9. เป็นคนตรง
  10. บำเพ็ญพรตประพฤติวัตรในคราวเทศกาล

จุดหมายสูงสุด

จุดหมายสูงสุดของศาสนาเชนคือการบรรลุเกวลญาณ ด้วยการ "นิรชระ" หรือการทำลายกรรม เพราะการกระทำซึ่งเป็นเหตุให้เกิด "พันธะ" การถูกผูกมัด (เปรียบได้กับอุปาทาน การยึดมั่นถือมั่นของศาสนาพุทธ) เป็นการการบำเพ็ญตนให้หลุดพ้นจากกิเลส หลุดพ้นจากสังสาระ การเวียนว่ายตายเกิด ซึ่งอาจเปรียบได้กับโมกษะของศาสนาพราหมณ์หรือนิพพานของศาสนาพุทธ ในศาสนาพราหมณ์ เมื่อวิญญานหลุดพ้นแล้วจะไปรวมอยู่กับพรหม ส่วนศาสนาเชน เมื่อวิญญานหลุดพ้นแล้ว ก็จะไปอยู่ในส่วนหนึ่งของเอกภาพที่เรียกว่า "สิทธศิลา" ซึ่งเป็นดินแดนแห่งความสุขนิรันดร ไม่ต้องกลับมาเกิดอีก

เมื่อพระมหาวีระสิ้นไปแล้วศาสนิกก็แตกแยกกันปฏิบัติหลักธรรม จากหลักธรรมที่เรียบง่ายก็กลายเป็นยุ่งเหยิง พ.ศ. 200 ก็แตกเป็น 2 นิกายคือ

  1. ทิคัมพร นุ่งลมห่มฟ้า แบ่งแยกออกเป็นนิกายย่อยอีก 5 นิกาย
  2. เศวตามพร นุ่งขาวห่มขาว แบ่งแยกออกเป็นนิกายย่อยอีก 84 นิกาย
