สโมสรก่อตั้งเมื่อ ค.ศ. 1940 ตรงกับ พ.ศ. 2483 ในชื่อ ซอลฟอร์ดเซ็นทรัล ใน ค.ศ. 2014 หรือ พ.ศ. 2557 ถูกเทคโอเวอร์โดยอดีตผู้เล่น แมนเชสเตอร์ยูไนเต็ด กลุ่ม Class of 92 ได้แก่ ไรอัน กิ๊กส์, พอล สโคลส์, แกรี เนวิล, ฟิล เนวิลล์ และ นิกกี บัตต์ ถือคนละ 10 % ของสโมสร กับนักธุรกิจชาวสิงคโปร์ ปีเตอร์ ลิม ถือ 50 % ของสโมสร จากรายงานโดย บีบีซี เดวิด เบ็คแฮม ซื้อ 10 % จาก ปีเตอร์ ลิม เมื่อวันที่ 23 มกราคม ค.ศ. 2019

จบฤดูกาล2018/19 ซัลฟอร์ดเลื่อนชั้นจากเนชัลนัลลีกสู่ลีกทู (ลีกระดับอาชีพของอังกฤษ) ด้วยการชนะเอเอฟซี ฟิลด์ 3-0
