ซามูเอล จอห์นสัน รู้จักกันในชื่อ ดร. จอห์นสัน (อังกฤษ: Samuel Johnson; 18 กันยายน ค.ศ. 1709 [รูปแบบเก่า 7 กันยายน] – 13 ธันวาคม ค.ศ. 1784) เป็นนักพจนานุกรม นักวิจารณ์และกวี เกิดที่เมืองลิชฟิลด์ สแตฟฟอร์ดไชร์ ตอนกลางของประเทศอังกฤษ เป็นบุตรชายของเจ้าของร้านขายหนังสือ นับถือนิกายแองกลิคันโดยเข้ารับการศึกษาที่มหาวิทยาลัยลิชฟิลด์และออกซฟอร์ดแต่ลาออกก่อนได้รับปริญญาเพื่อมาเป็นครู ในปี พ.ศ. 2280 จอห์นสันย้ายไปอยู่ที่กรุงลอนดอนทำงานเป็นนักหนังสือพิมพ์ หลังจากปี พ.ศ. 2290 ไปอีก 8 ปี จอห์นสันได้เขียนงานพจนานุกรม “พจนานุกรมภาษาอังกฤษ” (Dictionary of English Language) ซึ่งมีนิยามคำศัพท์มากถึง 40,000 คำโดยมีตัวอย่างประกอบการใช้คำด้วยพร้อมข้อความอ้างอิงต่างๆ มากกว่า 100,000 รายการ พจนานุกรมของจอห์นสันกลายเป็นพจนานุกรมภาษาอังกฤษมาตรฐานที่ใช้กันยาวนานจนกระทั่งมีการตีพิมพ์พจนานุกรมใหม่ คือ Oxford English Dictionary ขึ้นเมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2427

ชื่อเสียงของจอนห์สันในด้านความเป็นนักสนทนาในยุคนั้นได้บดบังชื่อเสียงในความสามารถด้านอักษรศาสตร์ของเขาเองเกือบหมดสิ้น หากไม่มี เจมส์ บอสเวลล์ นักเขียนชาวสก็อตผู้เป็นเพื่อนสนิทเป็นผู้เปิดเผยผลงานในสมาคมนักอักษรศาสตร์ของเขาในหนังสือชีวประวัติ "Life of Samuel Johnson" ซึ่งตีพิมพ์เมื่อ พ.ศ. 2324 ก็คงไม่มีใครทราบถึงความสามารถที่แท้จริงของเขา
