การแพทย์ทางชาติพันธุ์

แพทยศาสตร์ชาติพันธุ์, การแพทย์ทางชาติพันธุ์, การแพทย์เชิงชาติพันธุ์ หรือ เวชกรรมชาติพันธุ์ (อังกฤษ: Ethnomedicine) เป็นการศึกษาหรือเปรียบเทียบการแพทย์พื้นบ้าน (traditional medicine) ซึ่งมีพื้นฐานอยู่บนการใช้สารประกอบทางชีวภาพในพืชหรือสัตว์ พบปฏิบัติในกลุ่มชาติพันธุ์ต่าง ๆ โดยเฉพาะในกลุ่มที่เข้าถึงการแพทย์สมัยใหม่ได้ไม่มาก หรือหมายถึงชนพื้นเมืองต่าง ๆ คำว่า ethnomedicine นั้นบางครั้งใช้เป็นคำพ้องความหมายกับ traditional medicine (การแพทย์พื้นบ้าน)

การวิจัยทางการแพทย์ทางชาติพันธุ์นั้นมีความเป็นสหวิทยาการ (Interdisciplinarity) ในตัวมันเอง ในการศึกษาการแพทย์พื้นบ้านนั้นต้องใช้วิธีวิทยาของ พฤกษศาสตร์พื้นบ้าน (ethnobotany) และมานุษยวิทยาการแพทย์ บ่อยครั้งธรรมเนียมทางการแพทย์นั้นถูกรักษาไว้ผ่านทางธรรมเนียมมุขปาฐะ (oral tradition) เท่านั้น

เภสัชศาสตร์ชาติพันธุ์ (Ethnopharmacology) เป็นการศึกษาที่เกี่ยวข้องกันกับแพทยศาสตร์ชาติพันธุ์ เภสัชศาสตร์ชาติพันธุ์นั้นศึกษาการใช้สารประกอบจากพืชต่าง ๆ ของกลุ่มชาติพันธุ์ ซึ่งเกี่ยวข้องกันกับพืชสมุนไพรรักษาโรค (medicinal plant) และ ethnobotany ซึ่งนำไปสู่การค้นพบยาต่าง ๆ การศึกษาเหล่านี้เน้นหนักไปที่การแพทย์พื้นบ้าน แต่ก็พบว่ามีประโยชน์อย่างมากจ่อการผลิตยาแผนปัจจุบันในอุตสาหกรรมยาเช่นกัน
