ระวังสับสนกับ การพลัดถิ่นของชาวไอร์แลนด์

ชนร่อนเร่ชาวไอร์แลนด์ (ไอริช: Lucht siúil, อังกฤษ: Irish Traveller) “Traveller” มิได้แปลว่า “คนเดินทาง” ตามความหมายที่เข้าใจกัน แต่เป็นชนร่อนเร่ที่เป็นชาวไอร์แลนด์ที่ส่วนใหญ่เดิมมาจากไอร์แลนด์ และ เกรตบริเตน และบางส่วนมาจากสหรัฐอเมริกา ในบรรดาผู้อยู่ในกลุ่มจะเรียกตนเองว่า “Pavees” คำเหยียดหยามจากชนภายนอกสำหรับชนร่อนเร่ก็รวมทั้ง “Pikeys”, “knackers” และ “gypos” ในภาษาไอร์แลนด์จะเรียกว่า “Lucht siúil” ที่แปลตรงตัวว่า “ผู้เดิน”

บางครั้งผู้ที่มิได้เป็นชนร่อนเร่ก็จะเรียกชนกลุ่มนี้ว่า “Itinerants” ที่แปลว่า “ผู้เดินทางจากที่หนึ่งไปอีกที่หนึ่ง” หรือ “Tinkers” ที่เดิมแปลว่า “ผู้ซ่อมโลหะเบา” (Tinsmith) แต่คำหลังนี้ถือว่าเป็นคำประเภทเหยียดหยาม
