ปลาค็อด

ปลาค็อด (อังกฤษ: cod) เป็นชื่อสามัญของสกุลปลาเดเมอร์ซัล Gadus จากวงศ์ Gadidae ปลาค็อดยังใช้เป็นชื่อสามัญปลาอื่น ๆ อีกหลายชนิด และปลาชนิดหนึ่งที่อยู่ในสกุล Gadus มักไม่เรียกว่าปลาค็อด (ปลาพอลล็อกอะแลสกา, Gadus chalcogrammus)

ปลาค็อดแอตแลนติก

ปลาค็อดที่พบบ่อยที่สุดสองชนิดคือปลาค็อดแอตแลนติก (Gadus morhua) ซึ่งอาศัยอยู่ในน่านน้ำเย็นและบริเวณใต้ทะเลลึกตลอดมหาสมุทรแอตแลนติกเหนือ และปลาค็อดแปซิฟิก (Gadus macrocephalus) ซึ่งพบได้ทั้งในพื้นที่ตะวันออกและตะวันตกของตอนเหนือของมหาสมุทรแปซิฟิก

ปลาค็อดเป็นที่นิยมในฐานะอาหารที่มีรสชาติอ่อน ๆ และมีเนื้อสีขาวหนาแน่นเป็นปุย ยังมีการนำตับปลาค็อดมาแปรรูปเป็นน้ำมันตับปลาซึ่งเป็นแหล่งของวิตามินเอ วิตามินดี วิตามินอี และกรดไขมันโอเมกา-3 (อีพีเอและดีเอชเอ) ในสหราชอาณาจักร ปลาค็อดแอตแลนติกเป็นหนึ่งในส่วนผสมที่พบบ่อยในฟิชแอนด์ชิปส์เช่นเดียวกันกับปลาแฮดด็อกและปลาเพลซ
