ปลาตะกาก เป็นปลาน้ำจืดชนิดหนึ่ง มีชื่อวิทยาศาสตร์ว่า Cosmochilus harmandi อยู่ในวงศ์ปลาตะเพียน (Cyprinidae) มีรูปร่างคล้ายกับปลาในสกุล Cyclocheilichthys เซนติเมตร พบใหญ่สุดถึง 1 เมตร หนักได้ถึง 10 กิโลกรัม กินอาหารได้แก่ แมลง , พืชน้ำ และสัตว์หน้าดิน เช่น หอย เป็นอาหาร
เป็นปลาที่พบได้ตามแม่น้ำขนาดใหญ่ในภาคกลาง และภาคอีสาน เช่น แม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา แม่น้ำโขง แม่น้ำมูล เป็นต้น
เป็นปลาเศรษฐกิจอีกชนิดหนึ่งของภาคอีสาน นิยมบริโภคด้วยการปรุงสดหรือทำปลาร้า จัดเป็นปลาที่มีราคาสูงชนิดหนึ่ง แต่ต่ำกว่าปลาตะโกก (C. enoplus ) เพราะเนื้อแข็งกว่า
พบเลี้ยงเป็นปลาสวยงาม เป็นบางครั้ง ถูกเรียกในตลาดปลาสวยงามว่า "กระมัง ครีบสูง "
และมีชื่อเรียกในภาษาอีสาน ว่า "ปากบาน" หรือ "โจกเขียว"
