นิยามและเป้าหมาย

คำว่าสกีวโอมอร์ฟ (skeuomorph) มาจากภาษากรีก skeuos (σκεῦος) แปลว่า บรรจุภัณฑ์หรือเครื่องมือ ("container or tool") และคำว่า morphḗ (μορφή) แปลว่า รูปร่าง ("shape") พบการใช้สกีวโอมอร์ฟในวัตถุต่าง ๆ ย้อนกลับไปถึงปี 1890 และในปัจจุบันยังคงใช้คำว่า “สกีวโอมอร์ฟ” ในการอธิบายรูปแบบและการออกแบบอินเตอร์เฟซของคอมพิวเตอร์และมือถือ
