ครอบครัว
Steve Aoki เกิดใน Miami และย้ายมาเติบโตอยู่ใน Newport Beach, California เขาเป็นลูกชายของ Chizuru Kobayashi และ Rocky Aoki แชมป์กีฬามวยปล้ำของญี่ปุ่น และผู้ก่อตั้งร้านอาหารที่มีชื่อเสียงและประสบความสำเร็จมากของประเทศอเมริกา Benihana เขามีพี่น้องแท้ๆทั้งหมด 3 คน คือ พี่สาว Kanaa พี่ชาย Kevin และตัวเขาเอง ส่วนอีกสามคนเป็นลูกคนละแม่ Kyle, Echo, และ Devon Aoki
การศึกษา
Aoki เรียนจบจาก University of California, Santa Barbara ได้ปริญญาตรีสองใบในสาขา Women’s Studies และ สาขา Sociology สมัยเรียน Aoki ได้ก่อตั้งค่ายเพลงเล็กๆอย่างไม่เป็นทางการของตัวเอง และยังจัดคอนเสิร์ตใต้ดินหลายๆครั้งในอพาร์ตเมนต์ของเขาเอง จนเมื่อเขาเริ่มอายุ 20 จึงได้ก่อตั้งค่ายเพลงของตัวเองอย่างเป็นทางการชื่อว่า Dim Mak Records (ตั้งชื่อเป็นเกียรติให้กับ Bruce Lee ฮีโร่ของเขา) โดยมีผู้ร่วมก่อตั้งเป็นเพื่อนของเขาอีกหนึ่งคน ในขณะนั้นเขายังเป็นสมาชิกของวงดนตรีอีกหลายวงเช่น The Machine Kills
Career
Steve เป็น Club DJ, Club Promoter แต่ธุรกิจหลักของเขาคือการบริหารค่ายเพลงอินดี้ Dim Mak Records ซึ่งเริ่มต้นโดยการผลักดันวงหน้าใหม่ ออกสู่ตลาด แต่ในภายหลังได้ร่วมมือกับ Blake Miller ผลิตเพลงประเภท Remix ออกสู่ตลาดภายใต้ชื่อ Weird Science Production Aoki ได้ Remix เพลงจากนักดนตรีโด่งดังหลายคน/วง เช่น Lenny Kravitz, Bloc Party, Snoop Dogg, Robin Thicke, S.P.A., Duran Duran, Timbaland, Chester French and Peches และล่าสุดได้ออกอัลบั้มของตนเองในปี 2008 ชื่อว่า Pillow Face and His Airplane Chronicles
นอกจากงานเพลงแล้ว Aoki เริ่มจับธุรกิจด้านไลน์เสื้อผ้าและเครื่องใช้ เช่นแว่นตาและหูฟัง Dim Mak Collection ซึ่งเป็นไลน์เสื้อผ้าของเขาออกแบบโดย ตัวเขาเองและ Devon Aoki น้องสาวของเขา (ซึ่งเป็นนักแสดง Hollywood) เริ่มโครงการเมื่อปี 2006 และจะออกสู่ตลาดในปี 2009 พร้อมๆกันกับไลน์ แว่นตา Dim Mak Collection ที่ได้ร่วมมือกับสองผู้ก่อตั้งแบรนด์ Ksubi เสื้อผ้าชั้นนำ George Garrow และ Dan Single ออกแบบและจะออกวางขายพร้อมกันในปี 2009 ส่วนไลน์หูฟังนั้น Steve ร่วมมือกับ Greger เพื่อนของเขาซึ่งเป็นเจ้าของบริษัท WESC แบรนด์เสื้อผ้าจากสวีเดน เพื่อออกแบบไลน์ Aoki Headphones เน้นการใช้สีเขียวซึ่งเป็นสีโปรดของ Aoki ในหลายๆเฉด และจะออกมาใหม่ในทุกๆซีซั่นจับกลุ่มนักดนตรี และ DJ เป็นหลัก Aoki ยังเป็น Designer ให้กับ KR3W Apparel และ Supra Footwear ออกแบบเสื้อผ้าและรองเท้าภายใต้ชื่อของเขาเองอีกด้วย
นอกจากงานด้านเพลงและดีไซน์แล้ว Aoki มีกิจการร้านอาหารเกาหลี Shin บริหารร่วมกับเพื่อนร่วมงานของเขา Danny Masterson, Julian Casablancas, Mark Ronson, Laura Prepon, Jerry Butler และยังก่อตั้งบริษัท Deckstar เป็นบริษัท Management ร่วมกับ DJ AM และ Paul Rosenberg เพื่อดูแลงานของศิลปินภายใต้สังกัดของเขาอีกด้วย
