อาศรมในศาสนาฮินดูหมายถึงระยะของชีวิต 4 ระยะซึ่งมีระบุไว้ในเอกสารยุคโบราณและยุคกลางของฮินดู อาศรมทั้งสี่ระยะได้แก่ พรหมจรรยะ (ผู้เรียน), คฤหัสถะ (ผู้ครองเรือน), วานปรัสถะ (ผู้ออกจาริก) และ สันยาสะ (ผู้ละทิ้งทางโลก)

อาศรมสี่เป็นหนทางหนึ่งของแนวคิด ธรรมะ ในศาสนาฮินดู และเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของประเด็นทางจริยศาสตร์ของปรัชญาอินเดีย ที่ซึ่งถูกรวมเข้ากับเป้าหมายสี่ประการของชีวิตมนุษย์ (ปุรุษสรรถะ) เพื่อการเติมเต็ม, ความสุข และการบรรลุทางจิตวิญญาณ แนวคิดอษสรมสี่ยังมีอิทธิพลต่อการวางแผนดำรงชีวิตของผู้คนโดยเฉพาะในอินเดีย

ระบบอาศรม

ภายใต้ระบบอาศรมสี่ ชีวิตมนุษย์แบ่งออกเป็นสี่ช่วง โดยเป้าหมายของแต่ละช่วงชีวิตคือการเติมเต็มและพัฒนาปัจเจก ในระบบอาศรมแบบคลาสสิก เช่นใน อาศรมอุปนิษัท, ไวขานสธรรมสูตร และใน ธรรมศาสตร์ ซึ่งเขียนขึ้นในยุคถัดมา มีการระบุช่วงอายุแนะนำในการเข้าสู่แต่ละระยะ ในขณะที่ระบบดั้งเดิมดังที่ปรากฏใน ธรรมสูตร ยุคแรก อาศรมทั้งสี่เป็นวิถีชีวิตทางเลือกสี่แบบ โดยไม่ปรากฏการระบุช่วงวัยที่ให้ปฏิบัติ

(ผู้เรียน) 		ถึง 25 พรหมจรรย์ เป็นช่วงชีวิตแห่งการศึกษา และการดำรงตนเป็นพรหมจรรย์ (ละเว้นการร่วมประเวณี) นักเรียนจะเดินทางไปคุรุกุล (ที่พำนักของคุรุ) และโดยทั่วไปจะอาศัยกับคุรุ (อาจารย์) เพื่อรับความรู้ แนวคิด ปรัชญา สัจธรรม และตรรกะ, ปฏิบัติตนตามครรลอง, ทำงานเพื่อได้รับทักษิณมาจ่ายให้กับคุรุ, เรียนรู้ที่จะมีชีวิตด้วยธรรม อุปนัยนะ เมื่อเข้า สมาวรรตนะ เมื่อสิ้นสุด
คฤหัสถ์
(ผู้ครองเรือน) 		25-50 หมายถึงช่วงชีวิตซึ่งได้สมรส, ดูแลเรือน, สร้างครอบครัว, เลี้ยงดูให้การศึกษาแก่ลูก มีชีวิตทางสังคมและทางธรรมโดยมีครอบครัวเป็นหลักกลางของชีวิต ในทางสังคมวิทยา ระยะนี้เป็นช่วงที่สำคัญที่สุดเพราะเป็นช่วงแห่งการสร้างอาหารและความมั่งคั่ง ที่จะช่วยจุนเจือผู้ที่อยู่ในระยะอื่น ๆ ของระบบอาศรม รวมถึงสร้างลูกหลานขึ้นมาเพื่อสืบทอดมนุษยชาติ และช่วงนี้เป็นช่วงที่มนุษย์เกิดความผูกพันทางโลกสูง วิวาหะ เมื่อเข้า
วานปรัสถ์

(ละทิ้งทางโลก) 		75 ปีขึ้นไป เป็นช่วงชีวิตแห่งการละทิ้งความปรารถนาทางวัตถุและทางโลก โดยทั่วไปคือปราศจากสิ่งครอบครองรวมถึงที่อยู่ ใช้ชีวิตโดยมุ่งเน้นโมกษะ, ความสันติ และชีวิตทางจิตวิญญาณที่เรียบง่าย ผู้ใดก็ตามที่สิ้นสุดระยะพรหมจรรย์แล้วสามารถเข้าสู่ระยะนี้ได้ทุกเมื่อ
