การสะกดจิต (อังกฤษ: hypnosis) เป็นสภาพพิชานของมนุษย์ ที่มีการมุ่งความใส่ใจและลดความสนใจต่อสิ่งรอบตัว รวมทั้งตอบสนองต่อสิ่งชักจูงง่ายขึ้น

ทฤษฎีอธิบายสิ่งที่เกิดระหว่างการสะกดจิตแบ่งออกเป็นสองกลุ่ม ทฤษฎีเปลี่ยนแปลงสภาพ มองว่าการสะกดจิตเป็นการเปลี่ยนสภาพจิตหรือการอยู่ในภวังค์ (trance) สังเกตจากระดับความรู้สึกตัวที่แตกต่างจากสภาพพิชานปกติ ในทางตรงข้าม ทฤษฎีไม่ใช่สภาพ มองว่าการสะกดจิตเป็นรูปแบบหนึ่งของการกำหนดบทบาทในจินตนาการ

ที่มาของคำ

คำว่า "hypnosis" มาจากคำกรีกโบราณ ὕπνος hypnos ที่แปลว่า "การนอน" และคำต่อท้าย -ωσις -osis หรือจาก ὑπνόω hypnoō, "การทำให้หลับ" (ส่วนหนึ่งของคำว่า hypnōs-) และคำต่อท้าย -is ทั้งคำว่า "hypnosis" และ "hypnotism" มาจากคำว่า "neuro-hypnotism" (การนอนทางประสาท) ล้วนเป็นคำที่ตั้งขึ้นโดย Étienne Félix d'Henin de Cuvillers ใน ค.ศ. 1820

คนที่ถูกสะกดจิตเหมือนจะสนใจแต่เพียงการสื่อสารจากผู้สะกดจิตเท่านั้น และมักตอบสนองในรูปแบบอัตโนมัติโดยไม่ผ่านการวิเคราะห์ ขณะเมินเฉยต่อสิ่งรอบข้างทุกอย่างนอกจากสิ่งที่ถูกชี้โดยผู้สะกดจิต ขณะถูกสะกดจิต คนมักเห็น รู้สึก ได้กลิ่น หรือรับรู้ ตามคำชักจูงของผู้สะกดจิต แม้คำชักจูงเหล่านั้นอาจตรงข้ามกับสิ่งเร้าจริงซึ่งอยู่ในสภาพแวดล้อม ผลของการสะกดจิตไม่จำกัดอยู่เพียงการรับรู้เท่านั้น ทว่าความทรงจำและความตระหนักรู้ในตนอาจเปลี่ยนไปตามการชักจูง และผลของการชักจูงอาจคงอยู่หลังตื่นจากการสะกดจิต

สามารถกล่าวได้ว่าการชักจูงโดยการสะกดจิตตั้งใจใช้ประโยชน์จากปรากฏการณ์ยาหลอก ตัวอย่างเช่น ใน ค.ศ. 1994 เออร์วิง เคอร์ช (Irving Kirsch) บรรยายว่าการสะกดจิตเป็นเหมือน "ยาหลอกแบบไม่ลวงตา" (nondeceptive placebo) หรือเป็นวิธีที่ใช้ประโยชน์จากการชักจูงอย่างเปิดเผยและใช้วิธีเพื่อขยายผล

การประยุกต์ใช้

บางคนมองว่าการสะกดจิตมีส่วนคล้ายกับจิตวิทยาฝูงชน, โรคฮิสทีเรียทางศาสนา และการอยู่ในภวังค์ขณะประกอบพิธีกรรมของชนเผ่าในวัฒนธรรมสมัยก่อนรู้หนังสือ

การสะกดจิตบำบัด

การสะกดจิตบำบัดเป็นการใช้การสะกดจิตในจิตบำบัด แพทย์และนักจิตวิทยาอาจใช้การสะกดจิตเพื่อรักษาโรคซึมเศร้า, โรควิตกกังวล, โรคพฤติกรรมการกินผิดปกติ, ความผิดปกติด้านการนอน, การเสพติดการพนัน และความผิดปกติที่เกิดหลังความเครียดที่สะเทือนใจ ส่วนนักจิตบำบัดที่ได้รับการรับรองซึ่งไม่ใช่แพทย์หรือจิตแพทย์มักรักษาอาการติดบุหรี่และช่วยในการคุมน้ำหนัก

การสะกดจิตบำบัดยังสามารถใช้รักษาโรคทางจิตควบคู่กับการบำบัดซึ่งผ่านการพิสูจน์แล้วอย่างการบำบัดทางความคิด (cognitive therapy) การสะกดจิตบำบัดไม่ควรถูกใช้เพื่อซ่อมแซมหรือฟื้นฟูความทรงจำ เพราะมักทำให้ความทรงจำชัดเจนขึ้นและเพิ่มความมั่นใจในความทรงจำเท็จ

งานวิจัยขั้นต้นแสดงว่าการสะกดจิตระยะเวลาสั้น ๆ อาจมีประโยชน์ต่อผู้ป่วย HIV-DSP ด้วยความที่สามารถใช้ควบคุมความเจ็บปวด, ความได้ผลระยะยาวหลังการแซกแซงระยะสั้น, ความที่ผู้ป่วยสามารถสะกดจิตตนเองได้, ค่าใช้จ่ายไม่สูง และมีข้อดีที่ไม่ต้องใช้ยา

ในเดือนมกราคม ค.ศ. 2001 เดียร์เดร บาเรต (Deirdre Barrett) นักจิตวิทยาจากมหาลัยฮาร์วาร์ดเขียนบนบทความจากวารสาร Psychology Today ว่า:

โรคลำไส้แปรปรวน

การควบคุมความเจ็บปวด

หลายงานวิจัยแสดงว่าการสะกดจิตสามารถลดความเจ็บปวดที่รู้สึกระหว่างการการตัดเนื้อตายออกจากแผลไฟไหม้ การเจาะเก็บไขกระดูก และการคลอด วารสาร International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis พบว่าการสะกดจิตลดความเจ็บปวดในร้อยละ 75 ของผู้รับการทดลองทั้งหมด 933 คนใน 27 การทดลอง

การสะกดจิตถูกใช้เพื่อลดความเจ็บปวดระหว่างการผ่าตัดทางทันตกรรม นักวิจัยรายงานว่าการสะกดจิตสามารถช่วยแม้กระทั่งผู้ป่วยที่มีอาการเจ็บในช่องปากและฟัน นอกจากนี้ Meyerson และ Uziel ยังเสนอว่าวิธีการสะกดจิตสามารถช่วยลดความกังวลของผู้ป่วยเป็นโรคกลัวการทำฟันอย่างรุนแรง

ทหาร

การสะกดจิตตนเอง

การสะกดจิตแบบการแสดง

อาชญากรรม

หลายคนถูกตั้งข้อสงสัยหรือกล่าวหาว่าประกอบอาชญากรรมที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการสะกดจิต รวมถึงการขโมยและการทารุณกรรมทางเพศ

ใน ค.ศ. 2011 นักสะกดจิตชั่วชาวรัสเซียถูกต้องสงสัยว่าใช้กลอุบายหลอกลวงให้ลูกค้าธนาคารในเมืองสตัฟโรปอลแจกเงินสดหลายพันปอนด์ ตำรวจท้องถิ่นกล่าวว่าเขาจะเข้าหาพวกลูกค้าและทำให้พวกเขาถอนเงินทั้งหมดจากบัญชีธนาคารมาให้เขา เหตุการณ์คล้ายกันเกิดขึ้นที่เมืองลอนดอนใน ค.ศ. 2014 ซึ่งเทปวีดีโอแสดงคล้ายขโมยได้สะกดจิตเจ้าของร้านก่อนจะทำการปล้น เหยื่อไม่ได้ทำอะไรเพื่อหยุดขณะหัวขโมยค้นกระเป๋าสตางค์ของเขาเพื่อขโมยเงินสด และเพียงกล่าวถึงขโมยหลังเขาได้หนีไปแล้ว
