ชัมมูและกัศมีร์ (ดินแดนสหภาพ)

ชัมมูและกัศมีร์ เป็นเขตการปกครองที่ปกครองโดยอินเดียในฐานะดินแดนสหภาพ (union territory) กินพื้นที่ทางใต้ของบริเวณกัศมีร์ ซึ่งเป็นพื้นที่โต้เถียงระหว่างอินเดียและปากีสถานมาตั้งแต่ปี 1947 รวมถึงระหว่างอินเดียและจีนตั้งแต่ปี 1962 เขตการปกครองนี้แยกออกจากกัศมีร์ภายใต้ปกครองของปากีสถานโดยใช้เส้นควบคุมแบ่งออกจากอาซาดแคชเมียร์ และกิลกิต-บัลติสถานของปากีสถาน ในทางทิศเหนือและตะวันตกตามลำดับ เขตปกครองนี้ตั้งอยู่ทางทิศเหนือของรัฐหิมาจัลประเทศ และรัฐปัญจาบ ทางทิศตะวันตกของลาดัก

การจัดตั้งดินแดนสหภาพชัมมูและกัศมีร์นั้นเกิดขึ้นจาก Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019 ซึ่งผ่านร่างจากทั้งสองสภาของรัฐสภาอินเดีย เมื่อเดือนสิงหาคม พ.ศ. 2562 โดยมีผลให้รัฐชัมมูและกัศมีร์ จัดตั้งเป็นสองดินแดนสหภาพ คือ ชัมมูและกัศมีร์และลาดัก ตั้งแต่วันที่ 31 ตุลาคม พ.ศ. 2562 เป็นต้นไป

ชัมมูและกัศมีร์เป็นดินแดนสหภาพที่ใหญ่เป็นอันดับสอง (รองจากลาดัก) และเป็นมีประชากรมากเป็นอันดับสอง (รองจากดินแดนนครหลวงแห่งชาติเดลี)

ศัพท์บัญญัติ

ชัมมูและกัศมีร์นั้น ได้รับการตั้งชื่อตามภูมิภาคสองแห่งที่ครอบคลุมอยู่ นั่นคือภูมิภาคชัมมูและหุบเขากัศมีร์
