นกปักษาสวรรค์ หรือ นกการเวก หรือ นกวายุภักษ์ (อังกฤษ : Bird-of-paradise ) เป็นวงศ์ ของนกเกาะคอน วงศ์หนึ่ง ใช้ชื่อวงศ์ว่า Paradisaeidae
เป็นนกที่มีสีสันสวยงามมาก โดยเฉพาะในตัวผู้ จะมีขนตามตัวสีสัน ฉูดฉาดสวย งาม ขนหางเหยียดยาวเป็นเส้นโค้งอ่อนช้อย หรือม้วนเป็นรูปร่างแตกต่างกันออกไปแล้วแต่ชนิด จุดมุ่งหมายเพื่อดึงดูดตัวเมียที่มีความงามด้อยกว่า หรือบางกรณีก็เกิดพึงพอใจในตัวเมียต่างชนิดให้เข้ามาผสมพันธุ์ ด้วย ขณะที่ตัวผู้บางชนิดจะเต้นไปบนพื้นดินเพื่อเกี้ยวพาราสีตัวเมีย นกปักษาสวรรค์กินลูกไม้ หรือแมลง บริเวณแหล่งอาศัยเป็นอาหาร
นกปักษาสวรรค์ไม่ได้เป็นนกที่อยู่รวมกันเป็นฝูง หากแต่มักจะอยู่ตามลำพังตัวเดียว แต่ตัวผู้ทุกชนิดจะสนใจแต่เรื่องหาคู่ โดยจะเกี้ยวพาราสีตัวเมียเสมอ ๆ ตัวผู้จะมีพฤติกรรมผสมพันธุ์กับตัวเมียตัวเดิมตลอดช่วงของการเกี้ยวพาราสี หรือจะผสมพันธุ์กับตัวเมียหลายตัว หรืออาจจะเป็นตัวเมียตัวเดิมซ้ำแล้วซ้ำอีกในช่วงเวลาหลายวันหรือหลายสัปดาห์ ขณะที่ตัวเมียจะไม่มีปัญหา เนื่องจากตัวเมียจะเป็นฝ่ายที่เลือกตัวผู้จากลีลาการเต้นเกี้ยวพาราสี โดยจะใช้เวลาหลายชั่วโมงในแต่ละวันเพื่อมองเฟ้นหาตัวผู้ที่เหมาะสม ซึ่งถือเป็นการคัดเลือกทางเพศที่มีมาตั้งแต่อดีต อีกทั้งยังมีการผสมข้ามสายพันธุ์จนได้เป็นนกพันทาง อีกด้วย
นกปักษาสวรรค์ กระจายพันธุ์อยู่ในป่าดิบชื้น ของนิวกินี , หมู่เกาะโมลุกกะ ในอินโดนีเซีย และบางส่วนของออสเตรเลีย แบ่งออกได้เป็น 15 สกุล ประมาณ 42 ชนิด โดยกว่าครึ่งอยู่ในนิวกินี )
การศึกษาของนักวิทยาศาสตร์พบว่านกปักษาสวรรค์มีวิวัฒนาการ เป็นของตัวเองมานานกว่า 24 ล้านปี จนมีความหลากหลายและความงามอย่างในปัจจุบัน วิวัฒนาการดังกล่าวเป็นการเดินทางทางชีววิทยาอันยาวนานกว่าจะแยกออกจากนกในวงศ์ใกล้เคียงกันที่สุด คือ อีกา (Corvidae) ซึ่งเป็นนกที่รู้จักเป็นอย่างดีว่าไม่สวย
ในอดีต ขนของนกปักษาสวรรค์ถือเป็นเครื่องบรรณาการหรือสินค้ามีค่ามานานกว่า 2,000 ปี ขนนกใช้แทนเงินได้ การล่าจึงเกิดขึ้นอาจนับตั้งแต่การเริ่มมีการตั้งถิ่นฐานของมนุษย์ในถิ่นที่อยู่ของนกในวงศ์นี้ และได้กลายมาเป็นที่ต้องการของนักสะสมชาวยุโรป ภายหลังนกปักษาสวรรค์ตัวแรกเดินทางจากดินแดนหมู่เกาะมหาสมุทรแปซิฟิกไปพร้อมกับกองเรือของเฟอร์ดินันท์ แมกเจลเลน และเทียบท่าสเปนเมื่อปี ค.ศ. 1522 มีซากนกปักษาสวรรค์ที่ได้รับมอบเป็นบรรณาการกลับไปด้วย เมื่อชาวพื้นเมืองจับนกได้มักตัดขาทิ้ง ขณะนั้นชาวยุโรปยังไม่มีใครเคยเห็นนกปักษาสวรรค์ที่มีชีวิต จึงเล่าลือกันว่านกชนิดนี้ไม่มีขา คงต้องบินลงมาจากสวรรค์ อันเป็นที่มาของชื่อเรียกสามัญ
ในยุคที่ตลาดค้านกปักษาสวรรค์เฟื่องฟู เพราะความต้องการขนของนกปักษาสวรรค์มาประดับตกแต่งหมวกสตรีชาวยุโรป ตั้งแต่ช่วงปลายศตวรรษที่ 19 ถึงต้นศตวรรษที่ 20 ที่นิวกินีมียอดส่งออกนกชนิดนี้ถึงปีละ 80,000 ตัวต่อปี จนท้ายที่สุดมีกระแสอนุรักษ์ก็เกิดขึ้น มีการออกมาต่อต้านของสหรัฐอเมริกาและอังกฤษ รวมทั้งอีกหลายประเทศในยุโรปห้ามซื้อขาย
ต่อมามีการออกกฎหมายห้ามล่า เมื่อจักรวรรดิอังกฤษ เป็นเจ้าอาณานิคมของนิวกินีในปี ค.ศ. 1908 ปัจจุบันรัฐบาลนิวกินีเองก็ได้ออกกฎหมายห้ามล่า ห้ามนำนกออกจากเกาะยกเว้นเพื่อการศึกษาทางวิทยาศาสตร์ หรือเพื่อการเฉลิมฉลองในพิธีกรรมของชาวพื้นเมืองเท่านั้นและนกปักษาสวรรค์ยังได้ปรากฏบนมุมธงชาตินิวกินี และตราแผ่นดินของนิวกินีด้วย
