พาลินโดรม

พาลินโดรม (อังกฤษ: Palindrome) คือคำ วลี จำนวนหรือลำดับที่สามารถอ่านจากหลังไปหน้าหรือหน้าไปหลังแล้วมีความหมายเหมือนกัน เช่น ยาย, นาน, กนก, นอน, รรรรรร (ระ รัน รอน) จำนวนเช่น 919 818 พาลินโดรมไม่ได้มีแค่แบบเป็นคำหรือวลีเท่านั้นแต่ยังมีแบบเป็นประโยคขนาดยาวเช่น A man, a plan, a canal, Panama!", "Was it a car or a cat I saw?" หรือ "No 'x' in Nixon" เป็นต้น

คำว่า palindrome ถูกทำให้เป็นที่รู้จักโดยเฮนรี พีชัมในปี 1638 มีรากศัพท์มาจากภาษากรีกคำว่า (กรีก: πάλιν) ที่แปลว่า "อีกครั้ง" กับ (กรีก: δρόμος) ที่แปลว่า "ทาง, ทิศทาง"

พาลินโดรมยาว

คำพาลินโดรมที่ยาวที่สุดในพจนานุกรมภาษาอังกฤษ ฉบับออกซฟอร์ดคือคำว่า tattarrattat ซึ่งเป็นคำเลียนเสียงธรรมชาติของการเคาะประตูที่สร้างขึ้นโดยเจมส์ จอยซ์ในนวนิยายยูลิสซีส (1922)

ส่วนคำพาลินโดรมที่ยาวที่สุดในโลกที่ใช้อยู่ในปัจจุบันคือคำว่า saippuakivikauppias ในภาษาฟินแลนด์ที่แปลว่า คนขายสบู่หิน
