ชาวซิกข์

ซิกข์ (ปัญจาบ: ਸਿੱਖ, sikkh, [sɪkkʰ]) เป็นบุคคลที่นับถือศาสนาซิกข์ ศาสนาเอกเทวนิยมที่มีต้นกำเนิดในภูมิภาคปัญจาบช่วงปลายคริสต์ศตวรรษที่ 15 ตามคำสอนของคุรุนานัก ศัพท์ ซิกข์ มีต้นกำเนิดจากคำว่า śiṣya (शिष्य) หมายถึง 'สาวก' หรือ 'ลูกศิษย์'

โดยทั่วไปชายชาวซิกข์มักมีชื่อกลางหรือนามสกุลเป็น สิงห์ ('สิงโต/กษัตริย์') แม้ว่าผู้ที่มีชื่อสิงห์ทั้งหมดไม่จำเป็นต้องนับถือศาสนาซิกข์เสมอไป เช่นเดียวกันกับหญิงชาวซิกข์มักมีชื่อกลางหรือนามสกุลเป็น Kaur ('เจ้าหญิง') ชาวซิกข์ที่ได้รับอมฤตสัญจาร ('การชำระล้างบาปด้วยขัณฑา') จะมีชื่อเรียกเป็นชาวซิกข์ขาลสาอมฤทธิ์ธารี (Khalsa Amritdhari Sikhs) และจะต้องมี ก 5 ประการ ติดตัวตลอดเวลา:

ภูมิภาคปัญจาบในอนุทวีปอินเดียถือเป็นจุดกำเนิดของศาสนาซิกข์ เคยถูกปกครองโดยชาวซิกข์ในคริสต์ศตวรรษที่ 18 ถึงคริสต์ศตวรรษที่ 19 ปัจจุบัน รัฐปัญจาบในภาคตะวันตกเฉียงเหนือของประเทศอินเดียมีประชากรส่วนใหญ่เป็นชาวซิกข์ และมีสังคมซิกข์จำนวนมากทั่วโลก มีหลายประเทศที่ยอมรับศาสนาซิกข์เป็นศาสนาที่กำหนดตามสำมะโน เช่นสหราชอาณาจักร และใน ค.ศ. 2020 ชาวซิกข์ถือเป็นกลุ่มชาติพันธุ์ต่างหากในสหรัฐ
